pffffthahahaha Laughing

Isn't this grounds for a good ol' fine by the EU? Let's say, a BILLION dollars hnhnhnnhn

well a derp got money for not having a sign on cofee that it's hot, so i don't see why another derp wouldn't get it for not going into options and disabling tool tips.

the reddit thread they link as the source of the issue, the guy literally went on a keyboard war because people told him, why not delete the edge shortcut if you don't use it.

he wrote a paragraph on how that's a waste of time with no benefit. Laughing

you can't idiot proof an OS, no matter how hard you try MS. Razz

Coffee?

They wouldn't have had that warning if someone hadn't tried it and then likely won a legal settlement about it...

EDIT: There was some other case as well where a woman took legal action against a man who threatened her with what she thought was a kitchen knife, it was instead a dildo and the "threat" was something along the lines of "Do you want it?" which is still a bit creepy I suppose but I'd hope someone could tell the difference between a kitchen knife and a dildo...

EDIT: Or a thermometer...

little headsup about the netflix 4k thing: only possible with kaby lake cpu!

seems all current gfx cards dont support Playready 3.0 or the drivers dont support it yet (amd said something a few months ago that the gpus support hdcp2.2 but the drivers arent ready yet). so if you wanna watch netflix in 4k on the desktop -> atm only possible with edge + kaby lake system

So my computer updated to anniversary a week ago and only thing i can say is wtf was ms thinking with the settings reset and generic driver reinstall. The amount of reconfig i had to do to get everything back like it was, was too much last week. Never again will i install any big update from them, unless i am ready to format my pc. Mad

Get used to it. That is the way it's gonna be with this turd, and they are about to get even more 'Creative' Wink, It might be your PC, but MS OWN's it now, so live with it, or get offline.

Yeah the download process will grab a couple of generic drivers from WU, I'm used to it and delete those before the install begins but if you're unprepared (Win10 manages updates automatically instead of forcing it to manual mode for example, yeah that's actually not easy.) it can be a hassle to re-install drivers and such again.

As for settings Anniversary or RS1 as it's called will remember a couple of additional things and Creator or RS2 or whatever the upcoming update will actually be called will also remember some more settings although only after having upgraded to it and it changes stuff around during install so yeah you'll have to re-adjust settings again after that installs.

What was the name of that program or something through which you could turn off every bullshit in W10?

My gf wanted to try Cortana on her PC and now that bitch wont go away. No matter what she does.
And Service Host is constantly uploading something and because of that it lags in games and so on.

Question folks: got an great Lenovo i7 AiO with 4K Display for the fam, it came with Win 10 Home, used a special key to get it PRO, then it auto-upgraded to Anniversary Ed + additional patches but still could not activate. Then used latest Toolkit via KMS to activate it. Everything seems ok on all fronts so-fr. Apart from having to re-arm the KMS every so often (or not?) anything else should I be concerned of? Wink

Hmmm why did windows decided to rise my page file from usual 2gb to 7,5 gb ?
It was raising for last 3 days... I disabled page file, enabled and now it's up to 7,5 again.

what is going on. I think Mirrors Edge Catalysy somehow did this. Space on my ssd is too precious !
I should probably set it to 1024 anyway

Hmmm that's weird. I've had my paging file size manually set to 3 GB for both initial and max values ever since Deus Ex MD, I've played many games since then, ME Catalyst among them, and the settings haven't been changed changed a bit. I'm on Win10 Pro and I've been keeping it up-to-date with the minitool.

Setting a 'fixed' value, instead of letting the OS manage it, is generally better, as it's 'just there', aka, not expanding, nor contracting all the time, regardless of size.

I set mine to these values, (above) after some game (the name of which escapes me?, lol) did require a pool size of 20Gb to prevent problems, which did help indeed Smile Left it at that ever since, and all has been just grand.

If you have 16Gb RAM, just set the above and be done with it, 8Gb will take a little more, as VM is dependent on how much system RAM you have installed. The more actual memory you have, the less VM you will need, but never to the point that you actually turn the thing off, despite what others may say, as that is just asking for trouble. Aim for a pool of around 16-20Gb for committed, and this for 8-16Gb actual RAM Wink

The rough way to calculate it is, 5x VM to match what your commit figure you want is, so, as above, it recommends I have 2935 x 5 = my RAM = 16Gb, near as dammit, lol. I want 20, so I came up with the magic figure of 4432 x 5 = 20Gb. OK, so I was a little off, lol, but you get the idea Razz

My PC (8 GB RAM) never goes beyond 10-10.5 GB total commit (very rarely gets there, Deus Ex MD is an example), hence why fixed 3 GB has worked marvelously for me for many months now.

But...
You entered 4432 MiB = 4.32 GiB, now add your 16 GiB of actual RAM and you get your 20.3 GiB
So if you want a specific commit limit (20 GiB) you would simply substract your RAM (16 GiB) and multiply by 1024 (4096). This amazing method does not rely on magic numbers Razz

DONT FUCKING DISABLE THE FUCKING PAGEFILE!

and fss dont whine about your preeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeecious ssd space. it gets used and thats why u have it. if you have an ancient 128gb ssd deal with it or buy a bigger one. atm they are cheap as fuck. 250gb ~ 70 euros, 500gb were on sale many times already for 130. prices will explode very soon again

yeah It's onyl 128gb. And 102gb after windows + steam installed so still good. Plenty of space to install current game. Especially if its load times demanding.

And yes - I know not to disable page file.
I plan to get rid of hdd at all but that future is far away. 250gb still costs too much here to justify for ssd.

Had a funny moment today. So, as i'm sharing my winstore account with people to play gears of lol 4, the last person I shared it with, had an issue with deleting my account from his windows account list.

20 minutes of trouble shooting later, we got on the topic of how win 10 is interconnected, and disabling anything can mess up stuff you won't notice ages down the line.

and what do you know, using one of the telemetry disabling tools was the cause. as soon as he re enabled telemetry, win10 accounts started functioning, and he was able to delete the account.

They really don't want us tweaking win 10 Laughing

You only need a few hundred mb of page file in reality for if you crash. And 200 is pretty much nothing these days.

I'm running no page file for a year+ with Win10 Pro and 32GB ram... once you have 16GB game you can starting thinking of not having it but with 32GB Ram? Yeahhh nope you don't need it.

I'm not running any pagefiles for a long time, however like I said don't disable it if you don't understand what it does

Or how about don't disable it if you need it? sounds better than trying to sound smart without offering info on what it does Razz

i'll stick to windows managed and avoid mysterious crashes in many titles.then there's games like stalker series not even starting up without the page file.

You don't need to have a detailed understanding of the code behind the pagefile to have experience with the issues that occur with it disabled.
