I own a vive and have been reading quite a bit, but haven't come across anything as specific as your claim of "it adds approximately 15ms of delay"

So, either you read an article stating something that specific, which I would like to read.....

Or you are talking out of your ass.

The source was the official Chinese website for TPCAST, the makers of this wireless gadget.
They've now changed their mind and claim it's less than 2ms of delay.
They also changed another point: it was previously described as an universal solution that could be easily adapted to other headsets. They now describe it as being specifically made for the Vive.

It's a bit strange that they went from claiming 15ms to 2ms, but that's why its best to let other people test it first. Nothing to lose in waiting for first impressions.

So, Im fixing the pull the trigger on one of these.
I'm seriously leaning towards the Vive. I tried the Oculus at Best Buy.
There is another store that actually is demoing the Vive and I am going to go try that one as well.

With the Vive, Do you still have to have all the sensors mounted if you are going to be seated?

With Oculus now supporting roomscale, the Best Buy dude tried to tell em vive wouldn't have anything over it. I called horseshit on that one.

I do have enough room to use roomscale. I just dunno how much i would use it. But, i want the option to use if if i get the notion.

The only thing Oculus have over the Vive for now is Async spacewarp thingy which makes games feel smooth at 45fps instead of 90fps, this helps a lot in demanding games like ETS2/DCS/...
And maybe better lens/finition quality (cf. some reviews)

If your thing is just "simple" VR games/experiences or roomscale : go with the Vive without questions.

Mind you, I can't believe I still don't have my Oculus touch controllers by now Mad

i've had my vive for a while now and i'd say the biggest issue is the amount of work to get into a game.
turn on sensors, put headset on, put headphones on, get wands & controller nearby etc .. it always feels like a chore ..
i dont have an oculus but i feel like it's a much quicker experience to get started

That was my biggest issue with the Vive, setting it up and starting it for games. Probably to most it won't be an issue but to me it was a pain in the arse, and the noise the lighthouses emitted in my small room was annoying. Not a problem once in game though as i couldn't hear them.

I bought 2 Vives before my Rift arrived and they were excellent, the added dimension of the wands was massive.

Once i received the Rift i sold the Vive immediately. The ease of the Rift is excellent. No power needed once everything is connected via usb. You don't even have to run an app, simply put on the Rift and it loads Oculus home. Earphones fold down into position and your done.
Mainly seated experience for me so the Rift is perfect for my needs but i can't wait until the 6th December for the touch to arrive as that is the only thing i miss from the Vive.

ughhh. Such a difficult choice. I probably will be seated quite a bit, but man i'd like to have that room scale though just to have it. I am going to demo the vive here in a few weeks. And I like the idea of that camera. Decisions decisions.

I'd go with the Vive (as I did), it's the same just more advanced, if you set it up properly you can enable the cameras with 1 button (turn power on/off switch) and you dont need to touch the controllers if youre going to be sitting, also no power required if you just leave it plugged in? (the headset) literaly one button to start everything... Love the vive, if you set it up correctly turning it on is like two buttons and you can switch between standing play and behind the PC literaly by standing up Smile

Also the front camera and shaperone system is amazing, if you approach something you might hit in the real world you will see a siluete of it in VR Smile

I had two vives and both sets of lighthouses emitted the same noise.
Perhaps I was unlucky and thought it normal. When I did a search back then, the result was it was the motors spinning and was normal to hear the noise.

Seems reading again it varies https://steamcommunity.com/app/358040/discussions

Maybe the vibrations are due to them being attached to something that re-vibrates? Mine make zero noise too unless I put my ear to them and I have very sharp hearing.

When I still had a Vive, one of the base stations wasn't any louder than a spinning harddrive but the other one was loud enough be annoying and could easily be heared in the whole room. I guess it's random if you get good ones or not.

None of my base stations make any audible noise at all... Both of them are tightly drilled in concrete walls tho... Neutral

Definitely random then, maybe they sorted it in the later stations.

Mine were also drilled and secured to the wall on mounts and also prior to fitting sat on my desk and emitted the same sound.

@Big_Gun

You can't go wrong with either rift or vive they both have their pro's and con's

Don't pull your hair out trying to decide its a win win which ever you choose to buy.

One thing i notice more on the vive is the SD effect and less on the rift. The blacks are better on the vive though, and fingers crossed you don't get a rift with red tint Very Happy

nah, i think this is more of a case of some people not being suspectible to certain frequencies.
i'm very easily bothered by high frequency noises and my base stations have always been doing the same as well, they emit a subtle but very high pitched noise when on, this is actually a very common complaint on the vive subreddit as well so i doubt it has anything to do with a certain batch.
it doesn't bother me during playtime because you don't hear it then anyway, but it's definately something that stops me from always leaving them on, as during quiet times the noise would drive me nuts.

don't get me wrong though i love the vive, i just feel like the oculus is probably more like a simple to put on periphal while the vive really feels like some big seperate piece of hardware.

Tracking is great, no problems, depth is awesome and you freak out the first time you see your hands ingame. Altho didnt test this too much, for me all the far away objects are kinda blurry (but that was the case with all VR headsets ive used), either my eyes or I dont know whats wrong.

p.s. you have no idea how huge the cockpit is until you put that headset on, ITS GIGANTIC!
