For the story and the base gameplay (that shooting is so satisfying for me), I could have forgiven the little/comical bugs. But adding to those bugs, the poor graphic's quality and optimization, the AI problems, the 30fps lock at release and the missions design, it's just too much.

It's an okay "play story and delete" kinda game. It's fun, that's all. Maybe some patches will improve things, it does look like crap sometimes.

Fucking reddit, I posted a thread about a very specific issue impeding my progress, hoping someone could lend a hand. Stupid bot moved it the second it went up to the bug megathread, and now it's buried forever.
My sit down with Vito and Burke after taking care of Enzo Conti is bugged. I cannot assign the territory because the screen doesn't show up.
Aborting didn't help, it simply reloaded the same bugged sequence.
Does anyone have a save after that part?
"I think Call of Duty resonates because it's believable and relatable," Sledgehammer Games cofounder Michael Condrey says.
Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

The thing was that the game would just CTD when I selected continue. After a gazillion tries, back in and no matter what I do, kill myself, abort mission, exit game re-load and continue - its the same missing hit squad.

Mafia 3 lacks some of the attention to details but the overall game is far better. the shooting is better. the driving and camera IMO is much better. the AI is better. the mission structure in so many cases is more open ended and allows more player decision making. there is stealth.
you can compare what mafia 1 and 2 did better than mafia 3 all you want, but you can oh so very easily do the reverse. and if you take all the small side missions of Mafia 3 out and remove them completely than you are left with half a game.... that is just like Mafia 2 or 1. Mafia 1 and 2 were what Mafia 3 is with somenice graphical touches and without the side content.
The only real complaint i see here is the technical side. Me, personally, i run the game on a 5 year old rig on about 30-40 FPS on high details 1080p and the game looks just fine to me. no worse than Watch dogs or GTAV (and i played both of them in the past 2 weeks so this isnt nostalgia memory here) only it runs worse but not crap. obviously this game should run better than it does.
if you want to complain - go ahead, but don't tell me the game is worse than Mafia 1 or 2 in terms of gameplay because it isnt. it does everything importnat the older games did, does it better and does more. (i dont count turning the lights off and on or changing clothes as a major gameplay element).
Technically M3 should run better than it does, but it isnt Batman:AK or AC:Unity level of f%ckfest, at least. hopefully patches will remedy these issues sooner than later. |
While I'm not a big fan of M3, I'd tend to agree with you overall.
It's just the cultural disease that's so widespread in modern gaming. A game has to be literally the best in the genre to have a chance - or the majority of naysayers will label it the worst in the genre.
Cherry picking aspects of ancient games and pretending that's all there is to it, is just one moronic way to accomplish this delusional approach.
M3 is definitely not that great - but it's a decent enough GTA clone with a strong story. It's very much like Watch Dogs and Sleeping Dogs in that way. Well, Watch Dogs had a shit story IIRC, but it wasn't nearly as bad as people made it out to be, and some of the gameplay was pretty good.
Just give it a year or two - and most people will come around and realise that it's not all that bad.
Of course, on the Hump - the issue seems worse, because we have a lot of particularly vocal and narrow-minded people here. |
it's really amazing to me how much people here WANT to hate a game. some of them are hating it without even playing. basing their opinion on other people's comments - comments that come out of the mouths of people who are trying to find only negatives and make things sound way worse than they are. then they get others who havent played the game to believe them, making them rage as if this is some utter crap game.
I can easily compare this game with GTAV and make GTAV look like garbage compared to Mafia 3, and while we can all agree that GTAV is the better game it can just prove that it's really easy to make a game look bad if you put a tiny effort into it
M3 isn't great, but it isnt bad either. it's just average. personally i can see myself playing this for longer than many other open world games simply because it allows more ways to tackle its missions than so many games that are open world, but the mission design isnt open at all (looking at you, GTAV), has better combat than games like Just cause 3 or The Division, more open ended missions than Watch dogs etc etc etc.
I just pitty the friends of the haters in here. no one likes hanging out with people who only want to complain all the time. i have a friend like that. it used to be so depressing hanging out with him or watching a movie with him or playing games with him with all his negativity and inability to enjoy things.
thank god he grew out of it eventually. probably around his 30's he became either more positive or he just kept his negativity to himself because in 80% of the time the criticism didnt help nothing.

even at average mafia 3 is the better average game than most average open world games out there.
the first 2 hours are one of the best with a very good twist at the end, after this the game "starts" and its the big loop that everyone keeps saying that drags the game down story wise.
the graphics are not that bad, i guess they wanted some kind of reel movie effect, after a few hors its ok, also the shooting feels very good.
turning volumetric, aa and reflection to low i have a good 50fps with an old 660gtx, so i guess you either turn everything up then bitch on the forums or lower them and just enjoy the game.
I can see your soul at the edges of your eyes..

played a bit around, this game is strange. the exact same scene directly after loading a game ran with subpar 22fps. drive arond, always between 22-28fps. unplayable. entered sammys bar, looked around, got out again. drive around the city (still raining) and same lightning stuff with 45+ fps.... WTF? even drove back to where i started with low fps and drove the complete way to sammys bar back, still 45+ fps
