If they have done a proper root canal job, you shouldn't feel anything.
Edit: The pain before, an infected molar, I think you have to experience it to understand that kind of pain.

Oh, the root canal was not painful, and also the whole root resection was totally painless. I was pumped so full of anesthesia that I could not feel any pain at all during the operation, but once it wore off
Root resection is. -> Root canal did not work, as the infection had spread to some side channels. So they had to cut away the gum under the tooth so they could access the tooth from below. And then they cut off a piece of the tooth. and then stitched the gum back together.
I did have a very painful root canal done to me as a kid. The gum was so swollen it had to be burned away. The dentist used some kind of glowin iron to burn the gum -> that was painful (before, after and during the operation)

Yeah but when the pain is lowish you may want to switch to paracetamol.
Ibuprofen is not good for the stomach or liver (especially long term).
