So Dirt Rally VR is now out. And the patch notes state...
"To get the game to boot in VR, simply plug in your Oculus headset before you press Play in Steam."
The patch notes make no mention of Vive or OpenVR at all. The patch is 10GB, which adds nothing to the game.
Unless someone can state that the game does work with other headsets, this is the beginning of the end for VR.

Seems to be only Rift support for now. I dont think its an exclusivity thing, i think it was a rush to add support to VR. Hence they focused on Oculus. I dont doubt Vive will be supported ASAP.
VR wont end, it will still remaing a fucking war though
The Rift can fuck off . I put my bet on the Vive and luckily, it seems the Vive is outselling the Rift quite a bit so far - not a surprise considering the Vive ships after a day while the Rift still has a delay of a month when ordered. People who do impulse buys want it right now, not a month later and I bet the summer holidays won't help the Rift either since people won't want to wait until they have to go back to work.
But yeah, I want Vive support - racing games are great for VR.
As long as it remains pure rally like the original, and no extra shite like in their Dirt series... and I hope VR support is as exceptional as before...

That would be pretty epic - just hope it's a similar team to the original Dirt Rally making it... don't want it infested with those who thought Gymwanka was a worthy inclusion in previous games...

Aw yiss, bring back the king
Phil Mills (Petter Solberg’s co-driver) some time ago also hinted at the fact that he was recording stuff for a new simulation coming up next year, it has to be this one.
Hopefully it will be a full-fledged 100% simulative sequel without arcadey compromises, nothing in the modern market has managed to come close to Dirt Rally's physics, tracks design with proper bumps/road disconnections and precise demanding handling. Kylotonn and Milestone's attempts were merely a distant imitation of the discipline with too many unnecessary facilitations and forgiving driving, but also Dirt 4 ended up being a jack of all trades and master of none accessible hybrid.
Having the WRC license would be the cherry on top of the pie..please don't fuck this up! (..inb4 Dirt Showdown 2.0 )
There will probably be some kind of e-sports league to appeal to the younger audiences.
I hope this doesn't mean the game will have to be streamlined in any possibly way because it's such a gem and such fun to play that I wouldn't accept any watering down. Fingers crossed !

Been playing this in short bursts every now and then, very little. Haven't played many racing games for quite a while I guess, pretty bad at it, but it's exciting, something that most racing games, be it arcadey, simulators or in-between, have been missing lately. I have to restart so many times / stage until I get it right, but it feels great then. This stage in particular had some scary parts:
I miss our multiplayer shenanigans from Dirt 2 and WRC (was it the first one?). While much more arcadey those felt great to play as well.

Thanks for that, I've had the game on my wishlist for years!
@DarkRohirrim: Yup, the level of attention and precision that it requires in order to succeed without reducing the car to a toaster is higher than anything else on the market. Even a seemingly harmless bump can be fatal if underestimated, or like journos would say, it's the Dark souls of driving games1!. It always feels very rewarding when one slowly works on gaining confidence and eventually everything comes together without disasters. If I recall correctly our multiplayer frolics were with WRC3 by Milestone, back when there weren't any checks for the yarr
It's a shame that Dirt Rally 2.0 went the full online-based way, I believe that especially when it comes to weight distribution and actual feedback with the car on heavy/medium surfaces it's a definite improvement over the first Dirt Rally. Tarmac feels better too, albeit it's still the series' Achilles heel.
