The question is in the title.

German prices:

i7-6700K 325 €
i7-6800K 432 €
AMD Zen ??? €

Usage: gaiming mainly, also some minor video editing and encoding.

I'm starting to think AMD Zen is just a myth.

Wait for Zen you unbeliever!

(I'm also waiting for Zen to upgrade my 3570K)

The i 7000 series isn't that far of either, might wait and see how that goes although from the leaked (Chinese, as usual.) benchmarks there's only smaller gains but it might mean the 6000 series gets a price reduction. Smile

AMD also recently made some new CPU models still on the 28nm (So not Zen.) which have some smaller gains as well but a pretty good reduction in power consumption.

I would wait for zen how it performs in real world without AMD own tests, kaby lake seems to be failure, not worth to wait.

In that case X99 platfrom should be your choice at this moment.

Yeah also looking for more cores here.. hopefully Zen will deliver good single core performance.
I have a 3570k@4.2Ghz and it's holding back my gtx1080 quite a bit and prevents me from supersampling in VR. The CPU can't handle it.

What the hell.. wait 2 years ++ for a company that always lagged behind and has failed me with every CPU and GPU generation for the past 15 years ? Sounds crazy

wait for it!

edit: Well of course I dont trust AMD to finally deliver on the CPU front. But there is a chance. And since my 3570K is still good enough for everything I do, I can just sit back and see how it develops. In case it turns out a turd, well intel procs will not have suddenly vanished by then. Just get the next best intel core iteration and be done with it. I'd be surprised if it was any different with Paxsalis 8-threaded i7-2600. Maybe a bit old, not the best min FPS but still very much an ok CPU.

But of course if you absolutely need something new today. By all means, buy Skylake. Kabylake is not going to be that much better except maybe its power management and its integrated GPU, but both those things dont matter for Desktop ayway.

IMO waiting for kabylake is useless, since its very much predictable how boring that upgrade will be. Waiting for Zen is actually a bit exciting.
