I needed to install quick time so that after effects offers h264 as export. Any other option left then?

Export losslessly and then encode with a proper encoder. MeGUI will give you much better control over output and result. |

Oh fuck no, that thing has not been maintained for years, and due to limitation of VFW, was never good in the first place. Also, doubt After Effects supports VFW. |

Haha yeah, silly Adobe wants it for Photoshop too when importing videos xD
I grabbed QTlite some time ago, it's very obsolete but does the job for me and doesn't install additional Apple bloatware which is a plus. |

Just a tip: Looks like if you only install the "QuickTime Essentials" component and don't open any .mov and .qtl files, you have a safe installation that will allow third party programs that depend on QuickTime to function as usual.
