Scene rules were always a joke. Remember when vcd needed to be 700mb even though file size had far exceeded that so they needed to be spilt into seperate files to keep with the 'rules'

Anyway, dl now, looking forward to trying it when I get home. Also coincides with my mandatory 2 week leave where I will be sitting at home.

It's not like they just arbitrarily picked that number, it was so they could fit into CD-R's - reasonable enough back then when people still bothered to burn shit on discs.

I understand the reason, but CD became obsolete well before the rule changed/faded out.

It's just the irony of setting rules for a bunch of pirates. It was a simple form of superiority complex.

Anyway...it's all behind us now Smile

Indeed, great read, thanks! I'm basically illiterate when it comes to this subject, but such comprehensive studies are really fascinating.

Most secrets are relatively easy to find, but if you are going for 100% then yes, better take that perk, cause there are a few ones that are easy to miss. I personally never bought that perk, though, but I wasn't going for 100% (almost never do).

I really like the new Doom. But for a sequel I would love if they would go with the more realistic approach, a bit like Doom 3 but more hell on earth style. What they were going to do with Doom 4 the first time, I would like to see that happen with Doom 5.
It would just be boring if Doom 5 would be like Doom(Doom 4)

^ That version of Doom was canned by Bethesda because they realized it didn't feel like Doom at all, it was going to be CoD with demons.

That always looked retarded I am so glad it was canned. Even the engine was continuing under the same direction of "nothing dynamic, just static megatextures everywhere" as Rage.

You can see it in all the leaked screenshots and videos and also the article that revealed the reset of production said:

Quote:
โ€œThere was not only effectively another creative reboot, but a tech reboot,โ€ said another source. Although this wasn't officially a reboot of the game, there was a new team and new code, so for some staff it felt like one.

โ€œ[Id] started from the Rage code base, and took some big leaps back in certain areas of tech. [Id] spent a lot of time merging Doom features to Rage.โ€

"Big leaps back" should mean a return to a more dynamic lighting system as in eg Doom 3 and you can see that in the final game which uses megatextures but otherwise has a as modern lighting system as any other game on the market, very much unlike Rage and the initial Doom 4.

Maybe not exactly like that, but more of a survival/horror hell on earth, human massacre bloodbath style thingy. Imagine game like Agony with that artistic style only on earth. More gore and more disgusting and darker approach not so cartoonish like the new Doom game is.

It would be a shame if the sequel would be just like Doom 4, they mastered that game and there is no need for that game to repeat itself. Just add more expansions or something. Do something different for the sequel.

Yeah, no please Laughing

Make your own game like that, if it's good I'll probably buy it, but leave Doom out of it.

Ehm yeah did you see the actual game-play part of the leaked trailer from back then? i mean most of it was cgi but the game play stuff looked really awful i doubt there is much that can still be used these days from that.

Doom 2 was on Earth so it could work in Doom 5, they just need to keep the gameplay intact. One man vs. hell, no CoD shit.

That I agree of course. Just keep "survival/horror" for other titles.

At least more of a horror game, you are probably right about the survival thing but Doom needs to be more dark more brutal and more gory. I mean the old Doom is more brutal then the newest one. It would be cool to have a dark atmosphere, Doom 3 was alot more of a horror game and I would love to see them work more with that idea and have it on earth. No COD shit nobody is talking about that piece of shit COD. More of Doom meets Soldier of Fortune. More thrills, more scary shit and not so arcady feel, tone it a little bit for the sequel.

Like I said they have mastered Doom 4 and it's perfect for what it is but I would not buy another Doom game that is like that, you can't make it better at least for the old school approach.

So my 2 cents are more realistic approach (Doom 3) and darker atmosphere with more scary, gory and disgusting stuff going on.

I absolutely hated Doom 3, it was one of the most bland and boring shooters I've ever played.
It took me quite a while to try this new one out, after 3 left such a shitty aftertaste, but I am glad I did, it's an infinitely better game.

Would you like Doom 5 to be just like Doom 4 but with a bit better graphic and new maps ? Would you pay 60$ for that ?

I liked Doom 3 it was next gen Doom at that time, it got very repetitive just like Doom 4.

Played it for two hours, love it so far, if it stays consistently good I'll buy it.

After clearing the 4 gore nests I decided to explore a bit to find secrets and stuff.
I went back to the main area with the molten steel and when the door leading to that area opened, a wild Hellknight appeared and caught me off guard while I was snacking on cashews.

''MOTHERFUCKER!'' I exclaimed, with a mouth full of cashews, before switching to my chainsaw and cutting him in half.

Well done id, fucking well done.

Haha, yeah going back and exploring can lead to such "traps". If you liked it for these reasons, you'll love the rest. I have no regrets for buying this game Smile

(and I have to add that I also liked doom3 ... but I liked the alpha even more)

doom 3 was nice, i never finished it but i remember moments that made me jumpy when i was walking in dark corridors and suddenly i have been attacked from behind and the only light was the light from the gun shoots.
i wish doom 4 was at least a bit scary, i mean i didn't play it yet but from the look at gameplay videos it looks more like pain killer with waves of enemies and less like doom.
don't get me wrong, i love pain killer gameplay but there is pain killer and there is doom.

It's funny when people now identify Doom with horror first and foremost. Doom, as a franchise, was never scary. It was precisely what this one is: a fast-paced shooter with a lot of demons and over the top style. It's the third one that was different from the rest, not the latest one. I feel so old to remember that, lol Laughing

Having said that, I actually did enjoy Doom 3 a lot when it came out. Maybe more than I'm enjoying this now, because to be honest, as fun as the shooting is, after 2 hours I'm already kinda bored. It's a pretty repetitive game. The third one's atmosphere, at the very least, kept my interest up a bit longer. Then again I'm generally not very big on non-hybrid, non-story-oriented shooters so that doesn't really come as a surprise Smile
