You can unlock more slots for active abilities as you go on, later on you'll have enough slots for all the ones you really like.

Do like I did: install the mod that enables a bunch of ability slots (you can decide how many you have). I play the game on max difficulty to compensate but to be honest, most abilities aren't that powerful and you gain points slow enough for me to wonder whether it makes a big difference anyway.

The other two big annoyances I fixed with mods too:
- camera far too close to Geralt due to low FOV. Mod increases the FOV both in-door and outdoor which prevents me feeling dizzy
- the inventory space is too limited and because a lot of stuff you pick up has its use (for crafting, alchemy, etc.) I felt very reluctant to sell it off or dismantle it (which costs money).

Speaking of which, I also installed a mod that makes dismantling stuff free. It felt weird having to pay for reducing an item to its raw materials.

Considering how in every other game reducing items to scrap is free, it's more the annoyance of having to pay for something I felt Geralt might just do himself. If he can't remove the wooden handle off a broom, he sure is one thick Witcher if you ask me. Laughing

Not to mention that quite a few of the items you scrap are worth a nice sum as is and reducing them to parts usually leaves you with parts worth quite a bit less - so having to pay on top of that is just adding insult to injury.

I rarely had to scrap items, as I always had plenty of everything. But the prices I had to pay for scrapping - in my case - were merely symbolic (I almost always had tens of thousands of gold on me, so those scrapping prices really meant nothing).

Well I'm pretty early on in the game and you barely make any money then. I mean, after 5 hours of playing, I got 300 orens and this includes selling all the honeycomb and all weapons I found. Repairing stuff is just very expensive and in the end I installed a mod for that as well Laughing And I STILL don't have a lot of money because I don't dare sell any of the scrappable items. Maybe later on when I got more parts for crafting I won't care but at the start, it's easy to run out of something and merchants charge an arm and a leg for the items.

Usually I don't like balance-altering mods, so I'll keep it "vanilla" for now, but thanks for the suggestions, will check them out if I get really annoyed.

I'm playing on high difficulty too (not the "insane" one tho). Feels very well balanced for now, but it did in TW2 as well and then by act two I was OP as fuck. Hope it doesn't happen here too.

You become op around level 6-7 anyway. I'm considering upping the difficulty level. The only thing keeping me is that I know the enemies won't be smarter, only more "bullet"-spongy.

Regardless, as I worte earlier, this is a superb game -- despite its flaws.

I don't really call it balance altering - to me it's more like annoyance altering Laughing . Any RPG that has a draconian weight or item limit, I mod to remove the limitation. Sure, you can say that picking up the expensive items is part of the RPG experience but in the end, you still need to head back to stores every hour to sell off your loot and that gets tedious rather quickly. Games that have mobile stores do it the smart way.

Oh yeah, the fall distance is ridiculous - the books and earlier games make it clear that he can take a great amount of beating and then he loses tons of health from dropping down a small cliff onto grass? Really? I know why they did it - to avoid players taking short cuts - but still ...

I only own the base game. I suppose depending on price of the GOTY, it might just be cheaper to buy the season pass to get the rest of the content now?

fun fact: Sapkowski, the author of the saga, still refuses to admit that the success of the game brought his books back to the living, got them translated to multiple languages, rocketed the sales and he even got some fantasy award. On some convent few days ago he admitted that he doesn't know or give a fuck about the story in games, he was only consulting the look of the map. He could ask about the story as he knows 1 or 2 ppl who played the game, but he rather surrounds himself with inteligent ppl Reaction
