The CV is kinda dead. It's all about a document that 'sells' yourself now.

As usual the main factor still is (IMO) getting through the HR fucks, and good luck with those

If a potential employer doesn't want you because of some font in your CV, fuck him.

Actually the way a CV is presented tells a lot about the candidate as a person. What they choose to emphasize, how you word it, and indeed, aesthetics as well. Aesthetics matter a great deal.

I understand aesthetics matter, but I assume it's all about how correct it is (no spelling errors, proper style etc.). If a potential employer fusses about what font is used and whatnot, fuck that bastards.
The letter you write is much more important . I assume most employers know a lot of people are BSing on their CV anyway.

The only purpose of a CV is to make you stand out in a crowd. It is meant to make the HR/recruiter want you more than the others. Everyone has their quirks. You keep saying "fuck the employer", but it's much more nuanced. Assume there are multiple candidates for a position, and they are all qualified. The recruiter has to arbitrairily pick a candidate, and all they have is a CV. The CV that stands out will be picked. What makes a CV stand out? It's subjective, but typeface and layout are among the first that stand out. Also, depending on the position, how a CV looks can hint at the candidate's sense of design. I don't believe in software vs. designers; if you are developing for the web or UI, if you have no feel for design and usability, you are doing a mediocre job at best. So while, that criteria cannot be fully explored without a proper interview, the CV does allow a glimpse at a certain skillset of the candidate.
I have assisted numerous times with picking candidates, and in my experience, those that had both the technical skillset and the best CVs, deserved an offer the most. Those that had CVs that appeared just thrown in (including different fonts from copying and pasting from different documents), were never a good match.

All I want people to get from this discussion is not to cut corners. Invest a few more hours in building and perfecting your CV, it's worth it!

I am exaggerating obviously. Don't fuck a potential employer, it may lead to rape charges. I'm not an employer, but I hope a good HR guy will find an application letter much more important than a CV. I'm just amazed how important something with your education and basic skills on it has been made.

It's all a question of supply and demand. Anything that makes you stand out is essential.
