I've played Fortnite for about 20 hours over the past few days. It's a lot of fun! I strongly recommend checking it out. There is a learning curve. It's fun to learn. The looting system is great and the cartoonish world feels alive.

How? i registered almost 2 years ago and i never got an alpha invite, epic can fuck off i don't care anymore.
Someone hooked me up with a key about 4 weeks ago. Have been playing this exclusively ever since. Not even ashamed to have sunk 200 EUR into this game in such a short time frame because simply put, the game is way more awesome than initially expected.
The game is under tight NDA and only a few tausend players have the luck to be part of it. They also don't promote it or share any new infos in its current development state, that's why you hardly hear anything new about it. They do have a monthly stream on twitch during which they give away keys...
At times they give you 2 friend invites. Once I get them, I'll give them away on the hump.

Really? Has it changed that much? I played it like half a year ago after buying an alpha key (which are like 5 bucks on g2a and other places) and it turned into a boring grind on the same maps real quick
I've only been here since OT8, I have not witnessed any patches thus far. I like the game for what it is. Sure it get's grindy once you reach a certain point but aren't all games repetitive in nature? There can only be so many gameplay elements, obviously you'll be doing them over and over again.
The game does have some flaws, or design decisions I wouldn't agree with. It's still an early build though, and judging by earlier release notes they do seem to experiment and the game is not written in stone yet.
Anyway, I'm a fan of looting games and a fan of RPG's. I like to level shit up. I feel right at home in this game! And the feeling / atmosphere during those really intense endgame Outposts Defenses is amazing! What I like less is the gathering phase. It really does feel like a chore after a while. But the building and the combat is really fun and worthwhile.
Trying to not get into any specifics which could violate the NDA, for that my game access is too valuable to me.
So they're going from free alpha to paid early access to free open beta in 2018. From what I'm reading, alpha testers will be kicked out unless they buy a founder's pack (which we get half off, but still gotta pay to play). Kinda lame.
I'll try it out quickly again before they take away the alpha servers. My previous impression of the game was that the mechanics worked well, but it lacked a "game" under those mechanics.
Paragon seem to be doing OK though.
(Did I get that right? Battleborn - please make porn. - that's Gearbox, Overwatch is Blizzard and Paragon is from Epic.)

As far as alpha testers are concerned. Well, people who've been alpha for multiple years have no reason to complain if they haven't even spent 20 bucks during all the game time they've gotten. Because those who spent 20, in conjunction with the 20 bucks discount, would have gotten the EA for free.
Personally, I've spent 280 EUR over the course of 1 year? While I knew I would get all the v-bucks back for release/reset, they also awarded me the 250 USD Ultimate EA Package, based on my purchase history, on top of that.
Cheap skates will be pissed. People who actually supported the game are being rewarded. I don't recall any other alpha being this generous towards paying customers.
I don't know if it has gone through any major gameplay changes, or how much has been worked on/added, but when I played this a million years ago it was pretty fun.
I'm very cautious about this after their Battleborn debacle.
And also because they already have plans to go f2p:
But this has nothing to do with Battleborne. Battleborne is a Gearbox game and Fortnite is made by Epic. They got Gearbox to publish the retail edition, but who cares about that? This a project years in the making and the one thing that they can really screw with is the business model, but we shall see about that next year...

The art style is bad..graphics and gameplay are pretty meh..it should be f2p from the get go....
I don't know what you see so bad but this game oozes production value and style for a future free to play. Just look at the way a wall is built, how each component is animated and comes together to form the wall. The devs have made tremendous improvements in artistic direction and graphics since this game was announced and a nitpicky guy like me is quite pleased with the result.
Actually doesn't look too bad from that trailer.
Like a mix between Orcs Must Die and Call of Doodies Zombie Mode.
Those characters targeted at different people though: The black and cool dude, the china boy with colored hair, the chubby and strong woman, and the sexy 0815 chick.
// Nevermind, there are actually more than those 4 characters:
Spoiler:
Enthoo Evolv ATX TG // Asus Prime x370 // Ryzen 1700 // Gainward GTX 1080 // 16GB DDR4-3200
This looks pretty cool imo, but I think 40€ for the base version is a bit too expensive. Looks very much like OMD but a bit more active, which I think works well (really liked OMD).
If you want to see some (starter) gameplay, check this movie.
It shows some of the interfaces and such but he's still a noob and doesn't build the base as an experienced player would.
Also know that this is very early into the game where the game is still easy. Shit really hits the fan in the last 2 (of 4) theaters and the Outpost Defenses (your permanent base per theater) can also get pretty tough and hectic. Some of those outpost defenses (referred to as OD's) hit you with multiple waves, an event that can take like 30 minutes of non-stop fighting with a full group (4) of people.
Don't judge a book by its cover. The later stages is where stuff really comes together, it's pretty much the icing on the cake.
In 12 days the EA begins (for pre orders), alpha player can start in 11 days. Even though I'm already pretty burned out from the alpha resets, I'm still looking forward to release so I can start my final journey in Fortnite.
@Areius: Yes, 40€ for the starter is pretty expensive. If it would come with 40€ in-game currency at least, that would be different! It's a great game though! Personally, I was awarded the 250€ ultimate pack because I surpassed that amount with in-game payments during the alpha. I'm thankful for the gift because I probably wouldn't pay that much for the founders packs. Though, the higher you go with the founder packs the more value you get. Still hard to justify to spend that much without some in-game currency to go along with it though...
