After reading about the "Season Prax", I really hope it will be possible to use the good ol' ghetto Squareway to enable DLCs on legit games, a-la Baba Yaga. There's no way I'll give them money for such cheap trickeries and contents shamelessly cut from the main game Razz Laughing

Jesus, seems that this game is not what we asked for in terms of optimization, looking at early review sample benchmarks... GTX 1080 for example is not capable outputting solid 60fps at 1080p (DX11 and DX12) Rolling Eyes Laughing .

With what settings?

That's crazy

Ultra I guess, it sets MSAA at 8x which well with D3D10 and newer MSAA hates framerate. Razz (Well technically it's a bit more than "just" the D3D API in itself causing that.)
(Remember Metro 2033 with it's 4x MSAA option? There was a reason why 4A switched to SSAA for Last Light and the Redux versions.)

You can of course customize the settings and settle for proper downsampling or the less demanding TAA though it's temporal-ness means the image is a wee bit blurry. Razz
(TAA isn't exactly a standard though so it could be anything from a cheap custom implementation to SMAA T2X to something more exotic like the SSAA thing DOOM-4 used.)

It seems ultra settings is unoptimized as fuck, those low-ultra comparison videos shows that there is virtually no difference in graphics if comparing high and ultra, but ultra halves your fps Laughing... PCGH has steam review version and Fury X in DX12 was running cinematic 30fps @ 1440p, which is absolutely horrible (AMD has even DX12 advantages in hardware).

And i was thinking that DX12 would solve everything in PC porting, seems that things actually got even worse, what a big pile of shit (every DX12 game so far has been a mess).

Lets hope its a beta and day 1 patch will make the game run properly Laughing

As far as I know with my limited knowledge about it DX12 only "solves" everything by giving the developers the means to work with the GPU's at a lower-level, that does have a little bit of a skill requirement and as back with D3D9.x it's a slow learning process so expect it to take a while before we see some really good use from DirectX 12 and also Vulkan for the occasional game or game engine that might support that API, I do hope it catches on better than OpenGL did on Windows though. Very Happy

EDIT: And well with how oh so much effort and focus is on the PC port of these "AAA" games yeah well at least Nixxes have a OK reputation and they are pretty supportive post-release with patches and whatnot.
(Though it probably still depends on their publisher.)

I do hope the delay for the public release of DX12 support in this game means good SLI and Crossfire scaling at least and perhaps further optimizations.
(AMD's "wonderful" optimization - well, overhead. - with their D3D11 and OpenGL 4.x driver support does mean Vulkan and DX12 makes a good improvement though whereas Nvidia already has good support there so their GPU's see less of a boost as AMD's are now just performing as intended or how to say plus a small bonus from async compute if used.)

With how wonky the Steam servers tend to be after a high-profile game release it might still be faster to take those 20 - 30 minutes to unpack the ~40+ GB archive than download the unpacked files directly. Smile
(Your HDD will love you for that second choice though, Valve could just omit the game exe and some .dll files or whatnot ala Origin or Ubisoft but oh no encrypt the fuck out of all the files and pack with super-high compression too. Razz )

EDIT: And if you do have a decent size SSD well it's obvious which is faster and regardless of triple-layer and whatnot and other factors they're still plenty durable.
(Some 300 GB written every day for 7 years or what it took to kill some of them when tested and that was under even tougher conditions so yeah, durability is still good.)

I also pre-ordered from g2play.net - and they're always slow with pre-order keys. Don't expect it until tomorrow, though they're sometimes a day early.

Doesn't really bother me, though, as I'll be downloading it with 10 MB/s anyway.

The one that scaramonga uses (Metro for Steam) is pretty much the best one. It currently has a couple of minor glitches in some menus since it hasn't been updated in a while, but a new version is supposed to be coming quite soon.

Air for Steam is also not bad purely in terms of looks, but sacrifices too much usability IMO.

Pixelvision is popular but I always thought it looked ugly as sin, even before the flat UI design craze came along.

I activated it in Steam now, it seems I can disable the check marks of DLCs when I select the game ion my library. I must've not noticed it before,. I didn't know you could just stop specific DLCs from being downloaded (I assume that's what happens if you remove check mark).
There's also a DLC named "Jensen Story". Is that a pre-order mission?
