What are you guys doing specifically to identify if your card has coil whine or not?

Yeah but does it also happen when you're playing actual games or is it just a benchmark thing?

my 980Ti doesn't whine in furmark or heaven or MHO, but it whines in Armored Warfare's garage at about 110fps with vsync..

Nah, benchmark is mostly a surefire way to determine if your card has coilwhine or not. Coilwhine is a weird thing, in some cases it is apparent even if your card is working on a game at 30 FPS, in other cases it only shows up on high FPS. Of course I might be mistaken.

There was some issue posted a few pages back, in which Gaming X's w/ Micron mems were having some artifacts, not sure if it was for both 1070 and 1080 or just for the 1080 (different mem types on the two cards).

I know about that, but I got it for 1990 SEK, so it was a real steal, despite the coilwhine.
But since warranty is like 3 years, it should surely cover coilwhine?

Perhaps, but since Msi have cheap ass faulty memory (Micron) i pretty much don't want the card. Barely clockable, coil whine and the memory might cause issues after a while. Certainly won't pay 5300 NOK for that.
Using afterburner and increasing voltage to max (+100) i can OC it to 1687 clock and 1877 boost, and memory starts causing trouble over +400. Seeing how everyone gets over 2k oc is pretty annoying.

The shop I'm buying from also has the MSI Gaming X though, so I could change/"upgrade" to that, but don't know if it's any better.
