Cant wait to see how it fails .. Love the comments on overclock.net

So I say this is a card called RX 490.
It is a 349$ card targeted at the modern gamer that loved the performance range of 2014-2015 and finally wants to play 2 year old games.
Between 980 and 980 Ti performance.
349$

12GB GDDR5
weird cooler that idles at 92°C with 5% fan speed and ramps up to 99°C under load at 80% fan speed
1x8 Pin at the top of the card and another 8 pin right next to the HDMI and Displayport outputs.
Has a cooler on both sides. The newly announced backplate cooling unit
New feature AMD pre-new-driver boost. The cards overclocks automatically by 10% for the first 1 year of its duration until drivers finally caught up with the hardware.
There were rumors that Vega launch was being brought forward when 480 was shown off already.
I don't know how "panic" could factor into it. They either have the product or they don't. They can't wish it into existence, and if it exists why not launch?
That said, I don't see it competing with the Nvidia line up unfortunately, since there is a lot of ground to cover from the 480. Might offer an interesting price/performance alternative though.
However if 1070/1080 prices normalise by that time, AMD won't have a lot of wiggle room there either.

We're not here to truly discuss AMD.
We're here to make fun of AMD, ignore anything that they do during Nvidia product launches, ignore the launch of their new products since we just bought the new Nvidia card, and then complain at Nvidia screwing us while pointing at AMD and saying "See? If they can do it, why can't you?".
Then we repeat the process again and make fun of AMD for not having a bigger marketshare.
So get in line: AMD releasing a new product? Hah, they're just rushing because they have nothing to offer. Too late tho, I already got my new 1080! Silly AMD.
I would've gladly supported AMD and bought a 480 a month ago but the launch seems to have become a giant clusterfuck. The good aftermarket cards are nowhere to be seen in Russia and as far as I know the situation isn't much better in Europe. Meanwhile the aftermarket 1060s have been available since day 1 and their prices have already stabilized. The only reason I haven't bought one yet is because I happen to have a Freesync monitor and would prefer to take advantage of that, but the wait for the 480s has been fucking ridiculous and it's not even close to being over. AMD make it very hard to support them.
MSI 1080 Gaming X - anyone head anything bad about it? I know, it's just a factory overclocked card with a custom cooler, like any of them, but just wondering. The Asus STRIX OC seems to take it's sweet time to come in stock, no Swedish retailer has it, and no solid date when they're in stock again. The Gaming X might be the second fastest card?

There was some issue posted a few pages back, in which Gaming X's w/ Micron mems were having some artifacts, not sure if it was for both 1070 and 1080 or just for the 1080 (different mem types on the two cards).

So looks like the MSI cards with Micron memories are having problems...
Spoiler:
Mine has Samsung memories
So go for the Gaming X, I'd say
Ah yeah, I read about that in this thread, didn't register that it was the Gaming X, but as you said, it was the 1070. But thanks for pointing it out! Might just order next week.

Gonna return my pos msi 1070 and order a gigabyte instead. Terrible coil whine compared to what i'm used to, and the clocks are just horrible. Default clock is lower than advertised and i can barely clock it up compared to the others before it crashes. Also has that Micron memory, and i'm not paying that gigantic sum for a piece of hardware with shitty/faulty components. Gigabyte probably makes more fan noise, but thats no big problem.
