Even if the rest of us boycotted it, you know Inter will have pre-ordered like 20 copies of the Collector's Edition to add to his doll collection.

Played for like 1-2 hours and I like it so far. Not GOTY and OMFG but nice.
Runs well (i7 6C, 1080GTX, 32GB) at 4k (50-60FPS).
Cant really talk about variations and repetition since I haven't left the starter planet yet.

I didn't ISOdemo it, but I did purchase it. It is $30 in my region. A bit more than I thought it would be worth, a bit more than it is turning out to be worth. But I am playing (paying) with the houses money on this one anyway.
My thoughts were, before the game came out, that I would probably get a couple of dozen hours in before I grew tired of it and put it aside. I still think that sounds about right.
Currently I am 12 hours in and so far it is what I expected, the main concepts all seemed to be borrowed from Out There http://store.steampowered.com/app/334420/ Both games feature:
* Trying to make your way to a point on the other side of the universe
* Managing a small inventory
* Mining resources to refill depleting fuel and Shields
* Upgrades take up valuable inventory space
* you can get upgraded ships with larger inventories
* You learn Alien language one word at a time from Monoliths or from aliens themselves.
Out There, however is more of a rogue like board game.
I like exploring the first world I started on and haven't felt the need to leave. I like the look the look of the planet and there are no 'wrong looking' creatures on it. I became curious on how far I could advance without actually going anywhere. I have been able to upgrade my multi-tool 3 times, I had an opportunity to upgrade my ship, but didn't have the money at the time, I do know though. I also found an upgrade to my suit giving an extra slot. I get the feeling the more time I spend on the first planet, the less game there will be once I leave.
There are of course many things that could improve this game that should be fairly simple.
* There needs to be a map. So many times I have wanted to clear my inventory out, but couldn't remember where location of the Intergalactic Trade computer was.
* Survival Mode, I don't need it on my first play through, but it would give me a reason to play again.
* A reason to do things, quests, missions, planets that have something rare and desirable.
* Settlements
Playing No Man's Sky reminds me of an Elder Scrolls games minus the NPCs, quests and main story. I enjoy traveling around and seeing what's over the next hill, but there is nothing to make me want to go forward. It's masturbation over sex. It feels good enough and gets the job done, but you feel a bit bad about yourself afterwards
I like it enough to continue playing, but I couldn't actually recommend it to anyone else. I do not regret buying it for myself though.

Runs well on a 5 year old config with a 970. Still looks like arse and you have the occasional frame drop but for the most part 60fps. Like I said before: Quite the varying results when it comes to performance. The way it looks it shouldn't make it struggle on all but very outdated systems though.
I think for most people changing some of the settings have helped greatly... still no excuse for the shitty/shoddy work Hello Games have provided.
60€ ! can't repeat that enough.

Aaaand another game released in an unfinished state.
Yeah, they will fix some things with patches.
Yeah, there will be additional (free?) content/DLC.
But nowadays it seems to be normal like releasing a car to the public without chairs.
And they wonder why some people want to 'try' the game first via an ISO demo?

I've found this with every single survival or sandbox game outside heavily modded minecraft (for pure contents sake) and Terraria (for its content and item locked progression). Even then those two games require multiplayer with friends to be fully enjoyed.
I don't see how avg. gamer finds 150 hours picking up rocks, delivering rat pelts or walking 5000km's of empty map are fun activities?

No, that's not it. They don't want you to find out it's a car without seats before you buy the car.

Yes the review thing surprised me a little. Basically when I first checked, the reviews were, let's say, 75% bad and the next day only 50%. Intrigued by that, I checked the reviews and scrolled to find the first positive one. The first positive one was the same first I found the previous day. So I came to the conclusion that reviews are either in a weird order or they're disappearing.
