I think it was going to be. I think the game is literally, in every possible respect, unfinished.
This should have been released as an Early Access game, but because Sony got their oar in, they just wanted something out ASAP. Console players will probably find more depth in this, but PC players, who were under the impression the game was going to be so much more, are sorely disappointed with what is, in essence, a tech demo of a gaming framework.
If this game had a proper ecosystem for creatures, better physics, proper story, and interaction with other players - let alone some sort of base building for both land AND space (player could easily come across a derelict carrier or something), that would already make it a little better.
It needs direction. But, because sandbox games don't tend to NEED effort to populate, that's what we don't have.

why is that? u dont think 80-150fps is good performance? I think it is you that needs to evaluate pumpy If you ask nicely maybe trump will fuck you also. | I guess my Xeon + 970 is just not enough to render this game at 1080p with medium graphics (that look like low graphics on a 10 year old game) with 60fps consistently without lagging like a bitch.
Whoa Just checked out the graphics on the very first Mass Effect. That fucking destroys anything displayed in No Man's Sky

TB was running it at 60-80 FPS when it wasn't stuttering. Guess he needs to upgrade his 1080 to get better performance.

After spending three hours on crafting Warp Cells in order to visit different systems, only to get welcomed by the same exact tasks to repeat ad infinitum in the most unrewarding way, I think that my journey has cometh to its end.
In this house of cards, the crafting is always spoon-fed, the environments fundamentally identical if we exclude the aesthetics, you must surprise the player in some way or the interest vanishes. It's as if the game was permanently stuck on the 'first level', in terms of complexity and dynamics, it never really opens up gameplay-wise.
The "survival" elements don't really play any role either since it's practically impossible to die, no matter the radiation storms or whatnot, not to mention the various angry Wheatons and awkward beasts, resources are so plentiful that you can heal yourself every 10 meters.
All that's left is the learning of words through the same dialogues, encounters, monoliths, in order to try to decypher...the story...or well, the ramblings of some curious interstellar Yodas

Exactly! The game doesn't have any direction whatsoever, and if you really want to pursue the full-sandbox-y way, you must provide the player with depth and rewarding sense of progression, otherwise it all inevitably crumbles.

And here was me thinking nothing would ever beat SimShitty, but this does indeed take the crown, and 'lies' were involved in both cases, funnily enough
Sad sad state of affairs the game industry has become now, and this surely must wake up those who rely on 'hype' to feed their addiction, rather than 'reality'.
Glad I take the stance of, never trust anyone, or anything, period! Sad, but it is what it is, and it's cost me nowt by doing so, monetary, nor disappointment

Thinking about WHAT would be interesting in procedurally generated enviroments, i think it would have to have the ability to be so random in all aspects (gravity, fluids, life, matter) that we should have worlds like those in interstellar (the movie, stuff like that fucking planet that was all water with giant fucking waves) stuff like that, broken, it doesnt even matter, just a really fucking randomness generator.
But all planets with similar terrains, similar water bodies, similar aspects, just altered colors/flora/fauna wont work....
Ahhh, ill still finish this game, i have nothing else hooking me right now.

Yea in here all planets have same gravity and zero physics, there is also a similiarity in species, they all look equally Molyneux-esque.

http://steamcommunity.com/app/275850/discussions/7/360672304897578119/
Beta ("experimental") Steam branch with several further fixes.
Quote: |
Improved AMD Phenom Support
Thousands of lines of assembly have been rewritten overnight to support AMD CPUs. Unfortunately whilst the game code no longer relies on anything above SSE 2, Havok Physics still requires “Supplemental SSE 3”, which was not supported until “Bobcat” and above. We’re discussing with Havok.
Alt-Tab has improved
Some systems/configs were crashing or not pausing correctly on Alt Tab. This should now be resolved.
Shader Caching
Framerate was initially stuttering due to shaders not being correctly cached by the GPU on some systems. We have replaced the GPU caching system. You may notice some stutter during the Galactic Map intro to the game (the very first time you run), but it should be smoother from then on (this will be fixed in future). This is particularly true on ATI cards
Mouse Jitter
Smoothing on mouse movement has been improved to prevent hitching or stuttering, and is now adjustable through the Options menu in “Mouse Smoothing”.
Max FPS Cap
On some CPU/GPU configurations, setting Max FPS to 60 or 30 was not giving 60 or 30 FPS (causing stuttering). This has been improved.
Improved Performance
On CPUs with 4 threads or fewer, performance has been improved.
Intel GPUs
The game will now let you know if you are trying to run with an unsupported GPU. This will hopefully flag for some users that their high end GPU has not been selected.
Gsync
Gsync has been disabled by default, which was causing an issue for some users

If only they added missions, it would have helped instead of wander helplessly over planets our through space. The only thing they added is making money.

I still think this has an audience though.
Installed it yesterday for the other half and she's still having a blast with it. She didn't follow the whole discussion around the game so was spared from all the hype and bullshit. Just saw me play and wanted to give it a go as well.
So maybe it's nice for people who aren't used of survivals or Early access games. Though the longer she plays the more I hear about things like:
Why didn't they add a map, Why can't I look down in my spaceship, renaming shit losing it's appeal after two hours...
Makes you wonder if Hello Games only worked with an echobox for playtesters.
Game ran worse on her system, which is funny since its a year old, compared to my 5/6 year old rig. But Gsync,Vsync and other changes alleviated the stutters and frame drops.
It will be interesting to see if they can add to the game before the more casual gamers lose their complete interest in the game. I doubt they can.

Had fun for a few hours, but after that it began to feel like work.
The shallowness is just too much.
It feel like being taken on a gastronomic world trip, but all you get to visit is McDonalds.
Every planet is the fucking same. You can find more variety in the landscapes of a small country than in the whole universe of NMS.
Also the NMS galaxy is more crowded than a shopping mall around christmas. But a city? No way. An alien here, one there, like they are all hermits with extreme social anxiety.
No content whatsoever
This should have been into made a screensaver, not a game.
