Oh man..
I start the game, get the ship runn... well, actually I found another ship just kinda... laying there. So I fixes that one instead.
I better spoiler the rest in case, y'know, someone gives a fuck...
Spoiler: | I take off, fly into space, and find some interesting container ships. Naturally I shoot them to see whats in them. Lots of stuff flies out, although I'm not seemingly allowed any of it. Anyway, sentinel ships show up and, after a short fight, I get my ass handed to me. Except... I don't explode, but the screen kinda just...fades... I get some odd quote appear on the screen, and then I 'wake up' - on the deck of a space station of some sort.
Now, bear in mind, I have literally no idea about who I am, what I'm doing, and where I'm going. Ending up on a space station with my ship intact (minus 'stuff' - which I can pick up from my 'grave' (in deep space), with another ship flying in and parking next to me - this is all very odd. What's odder, is I can go up to the ship, and try and buy it from the incredibly alien pilot, who speaks nothing I could possibly understand, but somehow I can get he is willing to trade with me (as opposed to like, eat me).
Then I fly back to my grave, and carry on as if nothing had happened.
And I have no idea how I got to the station, and I still have no idea what I'm doing - I find a beacon that takes me to another alien dude who doesn't speaka da lingo, but gives me a blueprint for a hyperdrive anyway - oh yeah, and I'm somehow able to understand he is just a courier. |
This game is literally fucked up, unfinished and UTTERLY UTTERLY pointless. I get the DISTINCT feeling they wanted to add missions and suchlike, but, like everything else, they ran out of time/money/fucks (take your pick)
Oh, and just to piss probably most of you off, I have no FPS issues at all. The occasional drop when flying over a planet from up high, but other than that, it is fine. I have 16Gb RAM - I wonder if that has any bearing on performance?
Game is still shit tho

Game runs slow on my machine ... and it doesn't look as if it's justified.. plus lots of artifacts. It's still a "nice" timewaster with a shitty interface.
If one would compare the graphics of lets say.. Doom with this and how both perform And don't try to justify it as "but this is hhuuuuuuggggee" it's NOT! Everything you can see is barely loaded into the screen just meters before you arive. You leave into space? Oh look how those space debris is loaded just infront of you

Performance wasn't bad for me after I switched to the GoG version and put it on an SSD.
Settings: vsync off, borderless 1080p, FXAA, AA 4, everything High except shadows (medium) was mostly running at 57-60 fps with now and then a dip to 40 fps. Not that much though.
No stuttering which was surprising like hell as with the codex rls and on the mechanical drive it was microstutter heaven
I did experience after 3 hours all of a sudden the game going mental and getting stuck at 10fps until I restarted.
My potato pc: i5-2500(non k) 8gb ram and a 970. Seems like the typical shit port that varies quite a bit on different hardware.
I enjoyed it for what it is but its quite simplistic, has nonsensical interactions/story, content starved and after the first warp you pretty much get smacked in the face with: now do this 100 times till you hit the center.
It's chill enough to play while watching some low attention shows though! I'd pick it up around 10€ anything above it would feel like a rip off. There's better survival/explore stuff out there even when some of them are in some buggy early access state.
Edit: Ah yes... as a space enthusiast: What a daft representation of a universe. Space is a whole lot more interesting than what these clowns made.

Has anyone tried using SMAA instead of whatever's built into this game? |
I've tried to put Reshade on top of it but the result is more or less the same. The image quality gets slightly better with some sharpening and SMAA, but the jaggies are still everywhere and it never looks 'clean' so to speak. Must be using procedural anti-AA
(The only way to make it work is to rename the reshade64.dll to opengl32.dll - instead of the usual dxgi/d3d11.dll)

First time I ran it, it stuttered like crazy. Put all settings to high, restarted, and now it runs a smooth 60FPS (According to FRAPS)
i5-4590
24GB RAM
GTX 970

That did fix the stuttering for me. Game still looks like the internal renderer is set to 50% tho, ugly as fuck.
I wonder if that was their issue and why the PC version got delayed... Their engine couldnt handle "true" 1080p so they downscaled the shit out of it.

I didn't get a FPS increase like some people claim, but I can confirm my stuttering is nearly entirely gone.
I'm incredibly confused as to how gsync could cause stuttering in a game. Now I want FreeSync to be turned on by default on Deus Ex and to cap the max FPS at 30. Just for kicks.

It's just sad. The trailer from 2 years ago made me very hopeful about how the game would end up, but it didn't really evolve past that stage, it rather regressed instead.
