Even if what I said was a blanket statement that applies to every game (Hint: It wasn't), you'd probably also want to check the definition of 'potentially'.
Regardless of that, the modding scene would have improved the shit out of this, at least for what we can currently see in all of these live streams |
The correlation is - mods fixing things that the original developers couldn't do right.
I know the meaning of 'potentially' but even the best mods like overhauls for Fallouts tend to break. To be honest I could count on lumberjacks hands the amount of mods that were major overhauls that wasn't a broken mass of bugs in a longer run.
No hard feelings but saying with every broken game that mods could fix it is IMO an overstatement.

It's not really a matter of "fixing" it, just making it playable for more than 5 minutes without dying of boredom. It wouldn't solve the underlying issues - Bethesda games remain soulless crap however many gigs of mods you stuff into them - but it might at least spice it up a bit.

So much wasted potential |
But getting the computer to randomly create things on 2 or 8 computers at the same time while playing multiplayer (everyone needs to see the same thing) is an impossible task. |
Well, if they scope the multiplayer to smaller scale, it's not a problem at all.
BUT what becomes a problem is that Player 1 discover Blobbo1 and drills it into swiss cheese. Player 2 then discovers the same planet (They are NOT playing together at this point) And does something totally else on the planet.
And NOW they would create a party and play together... Which user's version of the planet is the proper? (it would probably have to overwrite the other user's changes)
This would be doable, but maybe exploitable. Unless they do some p2p hosting... ie. party leader's state of planets would be used for everyone, and once people leave the party, they go back to their own versions of the planets.
The main point is that the modified planets are stored locally (this is already confirmed by the development team).

Fallout 3 & 4 were like coat hangers with a solid foundation on which to build with mods. Say what you want but I disagree that they're soulless games - there's plenty there. Interesting quests, characters, etc. and I always loved the atmosphere. FO4 also added the crafting ability which was clearly inspired by other survival games.
With this game ... no mod could fix it because it lacks the basic framework to start from. No building mechanics, no storing of planets, no persistent worlds, algorithms making modding incredibly hard to do, etc. etc.

At least they could have had quests on planets, wouldnt need to be something advanced (since it would have to be prodcedural).. just something more to do in the game..
This is like Minecraft or Terraria, but without much of the fun and creativity that those games has to offer (e.g build shit) and they didnt even bother with quests?

A single Minecraft mod can get more complex than this game, this would be an insult to compare this alongside eachother. And Terraria is a completely different genre.

Terraria is not a completely different genre. It's procedural, open world, you craft stuff, you mine, its not really mission or quest-based either, it has more similarities than differences.

While it's different, it's not completely different. Terraria is about defeating bosses if i'm not mistaken? I don't play those shitty games, but i've seen my brother play.

@vurt It's in a completely different dimension. It's a 2D sidescroller, completely different lore, no space adventure, and so on. But I noticed that you already have some quite special perception of how "similar" games are despite huge differences. No offense.
Needless to say that both of these mentioned games are already proven and very successful with what they achieved, in opposite to NMS. That sounds like NMS and Witcher are the same kind essentially, just that one is 3rd person and the other isn't, that's just now correct.
@Stormwolf You may think they are shit in your opinion, but that doesn't change the success of them and how well they are done.

I thought the cult surrounding this game was a joke until I looked at the comments on the GB shill videos.
What the fuck is happening?

@vurt No I just noticed you will keep saying it's the same while it's not. You can go look up the Wikipedia of both games, "Action-adventure" is the only similarity in terms of Genre, and that also counts for games like Witcher. But to say the "mining" of NMS would be up against Minecraft or Terraria is just hilarious.
