And just now I ran outta beer. Sad
Last Monday I bought "Nicotinell" in the supermarket, it's horrible.
The Nicotinell is chewing gum with 2 mg of some nicotine derivate.
It just irritates my mouth and probably is a bad idea since it prolongs the nicotine addiction.
The cravings are okay so far. Wish me luck please. Smile

Best of luck, you must resist Very Happy. Sounds like the process went smooth all things considered (I peeked through the official nicotine withdrawal chart: after three days the worst part should be over - or so they say). Baby steps, but important ones!

You can do it as long as you yourself want to stop smoking.

I used to smoke 30 sticks a day on average, but I quit because it wasn't fun anymore. I haven't smoked in around a year and a half. Previously I've tried quitting twice but failed.

I was getting tired of waking up, and the first thing I did was light one up. That hit on that first stick was amazing, but then the rest of the day is spent trying to recreate that hit but it's not going to come.

So you spend the rest of the day with your throat, nose, tongue, feeling weird / dry / smokey.

The last thing I would do before going to bed was smoke, then when I woke up first order of business was smoke. I was feeling really sad at that fact.

Cravings are there time to time, but not as bad as when you first stop.

As to my previous experience I quit cold turkey, then held on to this stupid mental thing that I would never ever ever smoke another stick again. That's wrong, it kinda ends up keeping it on your brain a lot of the time. I held out for about 2 months, then around a month 2 years later when I decided to try quitting again.

I suggest understanding how addiction works, reading up on it, and so on. Then try and separate the act of smoking from things you do. Like I used to smoke after meals especially, or after a shit. Stop tricking your brain into expecting a 'reward' after these things.

And most importantly, it's ok if you smoke a stick while you're trying to quit. Just don't get addicted again. Which is fine as it takes more than one stick to get you addicted. Once your tongue gets used to being off cigarettes, you'll find that cigarettes taste disgusting and wonder why you ever got addicted in the first place.

I also used to drink a lot of Monster as my energy drink of choice, but I've switched to Red Bull after I got taste in my tongue back because I didn't realize Monster was very very sweet to the point of being disgusting.

Good luck man. If you wan to quit, you can quit. You are the master of your life, don't let nicotine rule you. And no self pity. Addiction and self pity are best mates.

I used to smoke 20-30 a day myself for a long time. Cold turkey fixed it for me, i find gum, patches kinda telling yourself ur not capable on willpower alone / doesnt work.

I found the first 3 weeks sucked, after that its fine. Being able to smell stuff is kinda cool too.

what did you guys used to smoke? i think one of the main reasons that helped me quit was that camel changed their flavor, as did lucky strike.

those taste like ass

i ran across some additive free cigarettes, seneca, less ass tastey and that was my last brand as i slowly tapered off and quit

Still clean, I rolled my cigarettes AKofC.
The cheapest stuff here, 50 grams in 2 days.
One motivator to quit was also a new anti smoke campaign here.
They started to print this on the packages:

a bit grim, i noticed we have that down here as well, but only recently. this will be more effective for long time smokers, but i'm afraid smokers who started after this campaign will get desensitized and autoignore the packaging

but stay strong man, nicotine isn't even that addictive, it's pretty much done by the time you finish a stick

but still, those urges will come now and then, i don't think they'll ever leave, though as the days go by they come less and less. so just think of something else and it'll pass.

must suck to be a former crack addict (but not really because being a former addict means you're on a good trajectory) though, because if nicotine can be this annoying, imagine crack

I had reduced smoking to almost none for years. Then I switched to an ecig but I didn't like it too much and also lost the battery. So now I haven't touched a cig in a few months.

Not that hard. If you aren't a pussy, that is. Cool

my father merely switched to e-cigs and should have reduced the nicotine count dramatically and it supposedly works differently in this form anyway. My mother as well, though she intends to use it to quit entirely.

you shouldnt use an e-cig with the goal to quit completely. for sure the wrong approach. though it might lead to thinking after a few months, mh maybe i can just quit. but not as first intention

quitted "real" smoking 1,5 years ago. using ecigs since then, but even the usage of that is relatively small now (i take a puff once now over the day, but not nearly as much as i used to smoke. only gets heavy usage on weekends when drinking). might dump it completely when my stash is used up (by the end of the year). but dunno, the smoking and drinking combination is an odd behavior, but without smoke chilling with friends and drinking just isnt the same

Stay strong, first months are hard when your body goes into withdrawal. The mental part of addiction can still act up for a couple of years or so but then it will just be some fleeting desire for a smoke that you can easily ignore.

Quit 10 years ago (cold turkey) and now I'm some anti-smoke nazi. Can't stand the smell and I get annoyed by people with bad smoking manners xD (In my defence: when I smoked I was a lot more considerate to others than what seems to be the norm).

Not sure how sound that argument is. If you can quit without it, it doesnt make any sense, of course.

But the e-cigs can reduce how often and how much you smoke, and it makes it easier to reduce the amount over time and thus stop. As a non-smoker I didn't realize this at all, but one advantage to e-cigs is that you never need to smoke a whole cigarette. You can stop after inhaling once, if you want to.

Im not saying that OP should now start smoking again using e-cigs Laughing

you got me wrong, onyy changing to e-cig with the goal to quit is stupid. you cant force that with an e-cig. many people try that ecigs for 1-2 weeks and go back to normal cigs. changing to e-cig to not smoke as much as you did before and especially "smoking" without annoy people around you on the other side is good (and that means NOT blowing vape around you like a chimney!)

Still dont understand why it is stupid. Why it is stupid to stop somewhat slowly? Because some of your people go back after 1-2 weeks? I also dont understand what I misunderstood.

But you know what? I dont care. These help in stastically irrelevant numbers, but all of those I care enough about, since i dont know many smokers anyway Very Happy

Keep on going, mate!

I quit a year ago (almost to the day), and the 4th day was the hardest day, everything after that was getting better. After 2 weeks, it took minimal effort to stay clean, after 2 months, it's natural.

I smoked 2 packs a day (went up after a family tragedy), then came off it from one day to the next. Best decision I have ever made.

I can now breathe normally, no more caughing, can do sports, don't get tired going on the second floor, SLEEP A LOT BETTER. It truly changed my life, to the point that I curse the day I ever picked the bad habbit on. I also hardly ever catch a cold, and the sweetest thing is, hangovers are so easy now with no headaches.

Keep going! It will feel really good soon.

Good to hear TSR! Remain strong and soon it will be months and years without smoking. (Although I think AKofC has good advice in the sense that even if you smoke one now and then you shouldn't feel bad about it, rarely smoking is still much better than smoking every day.)

Just had a craving, that still happens on rare occasions.

Well done! Last day I smoked was the 31st of July 2013. I have had maybe two or so when drunk but didn't enjoy it and put them out. I have no craving at all now. I think I might have had a slight urge to smoke sometimes for the first few years when drinking. So, so glad I quit. I save so much money and obviously the health benefits.
