I don't get all the various conditions myself so it's probably nothing but eh it's there.
(It's conditions for getting or not getting offered the build upgrade so it's not like they're detecting Steam and deleting it or doing some other questionable stuff, it doesn't confirm that MS is acting against Steam in any way just that it's checking something but I don't think Steam would play a major role in blocking build upgrade eligibility.)
Update: Microsoft recognizes it has work to do, though it maintains that UWP is an open platform. "Tim is a respected figure in the gaming world, and we value his feedback," a company representative told us via email. "As stated previously, the Universal Windows Platform is a fully open ecosystem that is available to every developer, and can be supported by any store. It’s early, and we recognize there is still work to be done, but we want to make Windows the best development platform regardless of technologies used."

Thats on bar with that idiot who screamed pc gaming is dead 10years ago. This will never happen, no matter how much microshit fans want it.
Today, new information got released about Microsoft's plans for the Universal Windows Platform. Windows 10 will get a more secure encrypted appx format so no one will be able to modify these apps.
Universal apps in Windows 10 are stored in the folder C:\program files\WindowsApps. They are protected with permissions but if you take ownership of that folder and grant administrator permissions, then you can access app files.
With these changes however, when the user installs an app from the Windows Store, it will get encrypted on-the-fly using the Encrypting File System feature of Windows.
Once encrypted, app files will not be accessible for modification even if full access permissions are granted.
Because of this change, Microsoft can finally offer protection to developers against apps getting decompiled and against piracy and easy app modification, which has always a problem for developers due to the .NET platform heritage.
glad that with my backlog and playtime ... I have enough till pension
calm down, only marketing jibberish. they can block the access to the folders yes, but users should be able to regain complete access cause the efs key must be tied to the users account -> thus it can be exported and used to get somehow to the files.
sure i am, only "advantage" for them is now that maybe the apps folder isnt accessable without any workarounds when its moved from the systemdrive to any other location
and since still uwp isnt cracked that doesnt matter at all
Starting with new installations of Windows 10, version 1607, the previously defined driver signing rules will be enforced by the Operating System, and Windows 10, version 1607 will not load any new kernel mode drivers which are not signed by the Dev Portal.

I'll worry when a lot of devs start using UWP exclusively, until then I'm guessing only microsoft exclusives will be using it and those I can perfectly do without

i guess thouth if without a legit key the installation was rolling back we are all fucking then
Good to see that Microsoft is still working hard to enhance the user experience and provide a free, friendly environment. It's not that they're pulling an App le or anything like that, that would be embarrassing.
atleast it answers my question if the new controllers are supported by the old box / one receiver
but shouldnt bt be able to connect 7 devices?
Do you know if the standard Xbone controller works flawlessly in every game, just like the 360 one?
I thought i read about some shit some months ago, that there were still some obstacles involved to get it working.
xboner controller works the same as the 360, afaik windows even recognizes it as 360 controller
think the cheapest way to go is still buying the xbox one controller + receiver pack for 55 euros.
receiver itself is 20 bucks, and new (old -> non s) controller 39 euros (sometimes a few bucks less. think 2months ago it was available for 19,79 euros)
and if you dont have a bt dongle you would have to spend 10 bucks extra either way (personally i only have shitty one and wouldnt use it for the controllers and will go for the receiver)
@bob: and watch out: there are now 3 revisions on the market (ok with the elite controller 4). original xboner controller, refreshed 2015 xboner controller (with normal audio jack output) and the xboner s controller. im not sure if the original controller is still sold. the package with the usb receiver includes the 2015 controller always
@escalibur: still a shame sony hasnt released its own bt drivers and still requires a wired connection for remote play, though i always prefer the xbox pad over the ds4 (unless its about fighting games)
DS4 pads work wiressly with PC too but MS has fucked up with BT/USB device detection for some reason. It might be security it might that even they don't know what is going on.
Wish someone would ask Phil Spencer about this when he's on stage again.
