Despite having used the method in the FAQ I now got a warning today saying I have 24 days left to enter a cd key.

I entered slmgr.vbs /dlv to check and it still said "grace period Time remaining: 30 days"

So, there must be a separate check that somehow got activated? I only installed a few updates which were unconnected to anything related to that so what gives? The icon that said "X days left" also disappeared when I tried to click on it. Anyone have any clue?

Apparently a bug... I got that too, and after a restart it was gone.

Not a bug - looking on other forums it's obvious that Microsoft have disabled the work around and anyone who installed the patch will have their Windows stop working in 30 days whether they like it or not Mad

I had it happen to me long ago... It showed I had 27 days to activate and timers said I had 30 days. I restarted and since, I've not had this message again. So it is a bug.

[EDIT]Hmm... KB915597 seems to cause problems. So don't install that. I'll add a warning to the FAQ.

Why are people having such a hard time implementing the WPA timer patch? It's easy, and it works flawlessly.

However I would advise anyone who is still trying not to bother. Vista is a pile of shit. There is no good reason to upgrade from XP. There are no killer apps that are Vista only. The only thing it has got going for it is DX10. So unless you have a DX10 card and some DX10 games then I would not even bother with Vista. Its that shit, I cannot even be bothered to pirate it.

WTF? I have every right, since I'm paying for their cards. That payment also includes support for the card. So STFU!

If I was to get the card for free, then, maybe, I'd have no right...

Time trick seems to working fine here, and I've installed all the updates. I used the auto installing one, I just ran it first thing when vista installed. fingers crossed.

And now my 2 pennys worth regarding Nvidia... LeoNatan is right.. Nvidia is screwing up the Vista experience big time.. it can't be a Vista problem since ATI have good working drivers. From being an Nvidia buyer for years this Vista experience has really opened my eyes, I think ATi for me from now on.

I looked up "gormless" in the dictionary, it said "without gorm" .... so i looked up "gorm" but it wasn't there ????

Yeah, but I still prefer nVidia over AMD... And those delays of their cards, just another reason to go with nVidia. In the end it will be an overpriced card that is really not that much better than the 8800GTX.

That's your opinion, there is a reason behind Nvidia countering ATi's R600 launch with their G80 refresh.

Just for reference ATi's prices haven't really ever been so bad, remember the 7900GTX vs 1900XTX? The 7900GTX from the day it launched a year ago or so to this day is still more expensive.

I'm getting financial aid from school and trying to decide if I should buy a 8800GTX for a new rig but if the R600 will cost +/- 5% and perform 15-20% better me waiting for that as well as the 8 series refresh might be the best choice.

Besides there's nothing to play right now.

Soon as Age of Conan comes out, I'm buying a DX10 card -_-

Been using Vista for ... about 30 days now.. Had the same problem where the activation crack stopped, but I haven't installed any updates. I think it was just a bug, as Leo mentionned... Just need something DX10 worthy now.

And yes, The NVIDIA drivers are AWFUL. I have constant video driver crashes, can't play half the games I want.

So you change the key after you have installed?

A very simple question, can it be cracked without a new install... I should activated 1 or 2 months ago :\
