i can say one thing with 980 ti my psu fan was raving mad while playing pCars and ACS, with 290 it is near silent, so could be that 980 ti actually consumes more power than 290, it was top of the line Xtreme edition or whatever so that could be it

I am using a watt meter on the socket
my 980Ti has 1x6 and 2x8 power connectors

in theory 2x8pin + 6 pin would allow 450w (8 pin each 150w, 6 pin 75w and socket itself 75w too). but of course no card ever sucks that much. and as is said -> your measuring watt meter seems to be a cheap ass one. that combination of the intel cpu + 980ti at stock doenst suck even 300w under load together. with heavy oc of cpu and gpu you end up ~400w consumption for the complete system

as I said I measure at the power socket, where the whole case is connected, not the PSU/PCI card draw
my total power reaches 375W at 4.4 clock CPU and stock GPU settings (~1390Mhz)
also I stress test the whole system, not just the GPU
the card is MSI 980Ti Lightning

yes ofc im talking about the complete system, for homeuse you have no chance to measure what the card alone pulls (and even for professionals its not that easy)
but rest of the system doenst matter (normal harddrive sucks max 5 under complete load and a ssd maybe 1,5w). there is nothing more in the system which could use a relevant amount of power. 375W @stock with both cpu and gpu is way too high (and again -> those cheap thingys are everything, but not really accurate)

Seems ok then, no?
