Like the topic says, i'm looking for a raid system and since it's for private use it should be affordable and even more important it should be very quite (so no 19 inch systems). The requirements are around 1TB of space and it should have raid level 5 and a gbit connection
At first i thought about buying a raid controller (Intel SRCS16) and four 250GB hd's, but there is no way i can keep that quite as my pc is loud enough already and my barebone is too small for 4 hd's
The reviews are all very good, except for the speed, wich is around 11MB/s, but that's okay with me, reviews also say it is very quite. But since i don't trust reviews i want to know if someone by any chance owns one and can give me a little review.
Or if somemone knows of any other raid systems let me know please.
TIA

thats more expensive than the above raid, and you don't have any data security with your setup (and it makes quite some noise i guess . If one of the drives failes your data is lost, with raid lvl 5 you can just change the hd and get all your data back and you dont loose that much space with lvl 5 compared to lvl 1.
Edit:
@syn: that's what i did, and the only other system wich came close was the Thecus N4100. Besides, i don't want to have jumbo jet noise in my condo I already have two scsi adapter so an external raid with a scsi connection would be fine too, but they are even more expensive. And a nas is more flexible, maybe i should have made that clear in the topic that i'm actually looking for a nas... fixed
Looks like you have your answer buddy.. however, I would choose lvl1 over lvl5.. unless your data is essential to life you should be wanting to get the 1TB you pay for

huh? lvl 1 is mirroring and gives me 500GB, lvl 5 is parity wich gives me 750GB, i will definatly go for lvl 5. And lvl0 (is that the one you meant) gives me 1TB but is way too risky. If one drives fails all data on the other drives is lost aswell. JBOD would be an option to get the full 1Tb without the risk of lvl0
But after extensive googeling i came up with a better one:
The ReadyNAS 600 from Infrant Technologies: http://www.infrant.com/
The only problem is that i can't find any dealers for it in the EU
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
