Backed at 150$ tier....

The demo looked better in the videos, though. I don't like the strange retro textures at all - but it's still a decent version of one of my favorite games of all time.

Nostalgia owns me here, I'm afraid.

I had some technical issues with the demo but that's to be expected, because pre-alpha and Unity, not necessarily in that order. Very Happy

The game went from stutterfest to smooth to stutterfest seemingly randomly, even though the FPS was pegged at 60 the whole time. It also leaves a process running somewhere that I can't find which causes Steam to not let me run it again.

I do like the direction they've gone with it. I liked the demo and I'm excited to see the final game.

My journey was stopped by a crash (*shakes fist*), but I liked what I've seen so far. It is a very bare bones demo as expected (limited graphical options, except from the resolution/fov - therefore no way to tone down the bloom and the likes), but they really nailed the sense of immersion, surrounded by metallic machineries, and the game feels more claustrophobic than its dad, old and new at the same time. Razz
I'm not sure the decision to emulate the pixelated textures was a good one, but I don't mind it to be honest. The interface isn't invasive (good) and the performance is solid albeit I encountered some stuttering also. All in all, promising Mobster with a Fag

Crashed here too a bit after turning on the lights Sad
I'll try it again later, so far it's promising

EDIT: LOL crashed at the same place. Also this game makes my GPU "sweat like pig", 74ºC the highest temperature I've ever seen Surprised
It's a pre-alpha after all

They're already almost at $200k, they're gonna make 900,000 for sure. I hope they reach all the stretch goals, but tbh some of them sound like stuff that should be in the game by default like the research/crafting and leveling up.

I'm far from an expert on Kickstarters but to me it doesn't look like it's going very fast for Day 1. I'm sure it will get funded but other than that...

Unless you have a huge and active following or a proven track record (recent one) you won't get much out of Kickstarter any more. People are fed up with it, far too much abuse has been seen and nothing much to protect people from it.

Doesn't help when you have examples like Star Citizen. Those are more damaging than some small team or Indie project.

I got to say for this campaign: That's some underwhelming stretch goals. Half of it doesn't interest me a bit.

Many times it's better not to have promised stretch goals. Make a solid game and that's that.

Then start working on a SS2 remake Cool Cool

Although it's a rather different game than the first. Maybe a spin-off, or an intermediate game, chronologically. That universe and the cyberpunk feel is awesome, also the small spaces and consistent artstyle, along with mostly robot-like enemies make things easier to make a RPG FPS hybrid for a small team which cannot create a ton of assets.

watched a let's play since i haven't upgraded to a dx11 gpu yet

At first glance the two things that i don't like are the sparkly bioshock-ey effects, like when he charges at the charge station. For the sparq gun on overcharge makes more sense but not everywhere.

And the missing soundtrack. Also the bloom.

The kickstarter pitch video is "cute" for SS geeks, but I'm guessing it's pretty cringeworthy if you're not familiar or in love with the game.

Not sure that was the best choice.

Also, I don't know why they think an orchestral soundtrack is a big deal. Do people really care that much about that kind of thing?

I'd much rather they spent money on something gameplay related.

Well, i rather enjoyed the demo. Very Happy
The full game definately has much potential, if they keep improving.

Performance was surprisingly good too, considering it's Unity (70-90 fps).

The bloomy graphics i still don't like, but they didn't bother me that much as from screenshots alone. And i'm sure some Reshade-Master will reduce the effect good.
Like they did with the Syndicate Bloom game back then.

The stretch goals are really shit though, yea.
For example:
Quote:
$1.7m Goal : Enemy limb dismemberment, More puzzles, Ammo types/weapon settings, Vending machines, Basic components/research, RPG progression, Weapon upgrading, Hardcore mode (No respawning), Ironman mode (Only 1 savegame. If you die, the save is deleted)

Seriously. Most of the features should be in the base game already, and not at some high crap tier..

I thought the RPG progression in SS2 was one of the best parts of the game. It made replaying the game a lot more fun and unpredictable.

As long as they balance the game properly around it - it could be a great addition to the game.

Some of those features are non-System Shock ones (RPG progression, vending machines, item research, etc.). While it might give an interesting twist to the gameplay, it might also veer off too much from the original so not sure how I stand on those. Ideally, you'd be able to choose to enable them when starting a new game. A significant change of the core gameplay might trigger other overhauls to match the new options and I'd hate to back it and then have another Star Citizen story all over again (with FPS combat being added, etc.) where the game design and scope got seriously out of hand.

I'm seriously impressed with how convincingly it looks given that they completely kept the original blocky level design and that's pretty much all I wanted from this remake. If they want to expand on it much, perhaps better to make an SS3 or an SS reboot in SS2 engine (which means completely new level design and all that) or whatever.

Backed,I kinda worry about the increased kickstarter prices,I wish the 25 tier was less limited, only 300... WTF?

And Even Shenmue 3 was for a bit less....

30$ is the max for me.

Would have to be the latter, Otherside Entertainment is already making SS3

In UW's case the graphics are so bad its immersion breaking, imo.

Unfortunately, I tend to agree. It's quite ugly.

I'm hoping things could improve before release, but I guess we'll see.

A lot of people seems to agree so hopefully the team learns something. It was wrong from the very beginning to go for this colorful and cartoon-like graphics. I don't even remember UW like that, for me it was even quite gritty (in comparison to the graphics of other games, at that time).

Standards were so low back then that anything 3D and textured was incredibly impressive.

It definitely didn't look like a cartoon to me, though the sprite models are pretty awkward when you look at them today.

To me, going the bloated cartoon route screams of not having the talent or the budget required for a fully immersive game that can live up to the legacy.

Here's hoping I'm wrong.

The campaign is close to 600K after just 2 days.

I hope that sends a message to OtherSide when it comes to how to approach a modern version of an old favorite.

- Patch for the demo coming early next week
- Started discussions with Sony for a PS4 port but they are very early
- They are aware of the discussions about the RPG elements and they state they intend to do a good job
- They received a lot of feedback about switching to UE4, they are neither saying yes or no, all they can say is that they will choose "the best tool for the job"

I think 2 million is realistic stretch goal but it was may bit early to announce next goals at this point..

I don't see it doing much further then Original Sin 2 though.
