I figured ultra was the max but going through all the settings I can now spot 2 nightmare options which I can't set because I'd need 5gb vram. So I have to correct my previous "max" statement to being a mere "ultra" setting at those frames. Smile

you can set them if you add a launch ovveride.

+menu_advanced_AllowAllSettings 1

but for my 970, only shadows can go to nighmare to keep VRAM usage under 4gb. with virtual texture pool on nightmare I will get 17 fps lock every few checkpoint loads. I guess that's what happens when the SSD starts doubling for VRAM Smile

so if you have a 4gb 960, go for the nightmare shadows if you can still stay above 60 fps.

1080 sounds like a reasonable upgrade especially when going beyond 1080p. Or are you still holding out until something better?

Personally I'm getting by just fine on the 960 for 1080p. I'll probably move to a new monitor once the 1180 / TI is released next year.

Thanks for the arg.
I have a 2GB 960. Just for kicks I set both options to nightmare. Still 20-30 frames, mostly 30 though.

The game runs off a Samsung 950 Pro SSD (M.2). I have my swap files set to this drive as well as another SSD.

I was just curious as to how it looks and plays but I'm waiting on an isodemo or sub 20 EUR pricing. Smile

From Ultra 80fps to nightmare 20-30fps due to VRAM bottleneck.

I can assure you though, that everything is enabled and on ultra for 70-80fps. Was going to make a short video for youtube anyhow, showing the settings and results. Give me an hour with reencoding and uploading. Smile

Hmm, yeah I have no idea. Even though the OC is pretty hefty for this card, it wouldn't account for that much of a difference.

My card compared to reference card:

EVGA GeForce GTX 960 SSC ACX 2.0+
1279MHz Base Clock
1342MHz Boost Clock
81.9GT/s Texture Fill Rate

GeForce GTX 960
1127MHz Base Clock
1178MHz Boost Clock
72.0GT/s Texture Fill Rate

But whatever, in the end it comes down to the fact that it's playable with all the eye candy turned on. I hate it when I play games while knowing that it could look better. Smile

oh i get constant 60 in the same scene where i get the 17fps cap, all it takes is a restart. it's simply not practical playing like that. but it's definitely related to vram, as i have it in OSD, and its 3.5-3.6gb vs constant 4gb when texture pool is at nightmare.

reached hell today and had an absolute blast. i have a ton of weapons by now, double jump, and the amount of enemies gets insane. this is what I was looking for. finally feels like an old school shooter.

and I still haven't done a single derpa kill. PC Master Race so much better than the slow first level.

and the double barreled shottie. feels good men. the game definitely falls into place with the double jump and the good level design with both horizontal and vertical options in every direction. switching between the double barrel, rpg, and the scoped smg, and it flows sweet. Gonna have to record a vid with shadowplay just so you guys who played the tepid demo see how hardcore and hectic it gets.

Also, hell seems to be the most demanding area. vram usage is now at 3.8gb, and I've actually now felt the gimped .5gb vram on the 970.

it's tough to spot, but i did notice a few dips to low 59 fps and adaptive vsync would briefly do it's thing. very good driver management of the slow ram, but it' doesn't escape the master race eye Challenge Accepted

Dunno i gamed on a budget for a pretty long time, got used to 30-40 fps(and often less Laughing ) and nowadays if i can't reach 60 i just crank up the settings and cap at 40 fps which is my personal sweet spot but i also never really played a lot of fast action games since i'm pretty shit at them., happens rarely these days though since i can afford better hardware now

And completed it. what a ride. nightmate difficulty, 0 glory kills PC Master Race

they did leave a bit too many BFG rounds late on for noobs to clutch on, but some areas were quite hectic. we are talking 10 minutes of constant, checkpoint free combat against varied mobs.

Overall, a fantastic game. Audio visual presentation was top notch. love this version of idtech. 0 texture stream pop in, great optimization, a ton of graphical options, great AA with almost 0 jaggies, fantastic color palette. Loved the soundtrack even though it's not a genre I listen to in my spare time. it really went hand in hand with the super shottie especially.

Enemy design was great. except for the weakest slow moving fodder which felt oddly mis designed (you literally have to be brain dead to ever get hit by them), all the other enemies managed to stay recognizable from doom 1/2 and yet also received gameplay related upgrades. The game combat was at its finest when the designers threw cleverly mixed mobs at you, that required constant adaptation in a split second.

Weapons as well, most were really well designed. the pistol, single barrel shottie and the plasma rifle though were a bit off though and rarely useful. super shotie, railgun and the RPG were definitely the most useful, follows by the machinegun and the BFG. too bad the chainsaw was completely derped into glory kill mode so I never used it. Sad

Level design was great. a mix of open arenas for huge battles, as well as a lot of story driving locations that reminded me a lot of half-life 1. huge industrial complexes with a lot of platforming, hell often felt like xen as well, research facilities, labs, and gorgeous outside vistas. definitely a lot of memorable locations that were a joy to explore.

The length was just perfect, definitely not too short, and just when a hint of sameyness kicked in, the game wraps up.

There wasn't much to dislike apart from what I already mentioned. the start is a bit slow and doesn't do the game justice, the checkpoints were occasionally badly placed inducing first world tedium. no quicksaving is a travesty as well. mouse acceleration also pissed me off, but I got used to it since I didn't play anything else until I finished the game. I bet r6siege mouse look will now feel amazing Smile

enemies going into "please glory kill me" mode as well as the glory kills themselves should be a toggle. I found them a trash addition, but luckily they don't hamper the game flow too much, nor are needed at all.

Compared to the recentish wolfenstein reboot that I found pretty mediocre, this was a very pleasant surprise.

more shooters like this are needed.

8.3/10 IGN

Oh, and I can't forget, thank you konkol84 for the account share. I'd not be able to play it if it wasn't for you

nah, that doesn't fix mouse accell, it did help a bit, but there's still variable mouse movement from hidden accelaration. it's very noticeable if you play with high sensitivity.

yeah, I think it's not as bad on low sensitivity because you move the mouse a lot anyways.

for me it's just wrist flicking, so it's quite noticeable because I would often go past my target as even a tiny change in speed of the flick caused a different distance that the mouse would travel.

But I got used to it after a few hours, or at least accepted it Laughing I still occasionally missed point blank shotgun shots because of it. Embarassed

Surely there were two or three "glory" kills for the bosses no?
(I haven't actually tried if they can be killed by other means, of course I haven't actually reached a real boss yet either as I took a break waiting for more patches and hopefully the Vulkan API before I complete these last three or so levels.)

yeah, i wasn't counting those as they are mandatory Smile 3 glory kills it is then. well, technically 5 due to one boss being three actually.

they cannot be killed by any other means, trust me I tried and pulled my hair on the first boss not realizing it. Embarassed
