The Return of id Software’s Classic Shooter Franchise Will Deliver the Fragfest Fans Expect with All-New Champions

June 12, 2016 (Rockville, MD) – Bethesda Softworks®, a ZeniMax® Media company, today announced Quake® Champions , a competitive arena-style first-person shooter for the PC that will return fans to the frenetic, skill-based competition that made Quake an industry legend and solidified it as one of the first major eSports games.
In development at franchise-founding id Software, in conjunction with Saber Interactive, Quake Champions will deliver the mythos of the first Quake with the groundbreaking multiplayer mayhem of Quake III Arena. The game will also introduce a major new feature to the franchise – Champions – a roster of fierce warriors, each with unique attributes and abilities, which enable players to compete in their own distinctive style.
“20 years ago, Quake set new standards for multiplayer competition and pushed the boundaries for graphics and gameplay,” said Tim Willits, Studio Director, id Software. “It’s important to all of us at id Software that Quake Champions remains true to the Quake legacy, and delivers the speed and gameplay our long-time fans expect, while also pressing forward by introducing innovative gameplay opportunities with new Champions and abilities.”
Quake Champions continues id Software’s tradition of pushing the boundaries of modern technology and will deliver stunning graphics running at 120hz with unlocked frame rates. The game will make it easy for new players to learn while also delivering the challenge and competition 20-year Quake veterans expect.
Quake Champions is designed and built for eSports, integrating competitive features for professional and amateur levels of play. The game will be supported at tournaments and in leagues around the globe, including QuakeCon, the annual event that attracts tens of thousands of id Software fans and competitors to Dallas.
This year’s QuakeCon will be held August 4-7 and will be where id Software reveals more details about Quake Champions directly to its devoted fans. For more information about QuakeCon 2016 or to register to attend, please visit www.QuakeCon.org .

TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."

"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"
It's the season of "champion-based shooters", thanks to the success of Overwatch. Just like the past few years has been the season of MOBAs (thanks to the success of LoL), and military team-based shooters (thanks to CoD).
I have the feel that this is just the first of many. And if history taught us anything, most of them will be soulless carbon-copies of one another.
(I'm not saying this one will be good or bad, mind you, just noticing the start of a trend)
It could be a figure of speech to signify high framerate support and actually support 144 too. Doom does up to 200.

I dislike the fluff of Overwatch greatly (lore is ultra-PC crap). But the shooting is quite solid, to be honest, and it's way faster than most modern shooters.
However.
I want the gritty fast paced, no reload, no pause, full on mayhem shooting of the Q3 and ut2k4 variety. Nothing comes even close to those games.
Beth surprised us int the SP front with Doom - which was excellent, period. If they can do that with the arena shooter, I will be more than happy to pay.

deadpoetic-"are you new to the cyberspace?"

- The four revealed characters are Ranger, Visor, Nyx, and Scale-Bearer. The latter two are new.
- Tim's favorite character (out of the four revealed) is Nyx because she's really fast and great at rocket jumping.
- The plan is for players to pick the character that best suites them and then main that character. He said you can hop around between characters if you want, but that doesn't seem to be what the game is designed for.
- On that note, Tim also said you would "build" your character. We'll have to wait and see what he means there.
- When asked about Saber Interactive's involvement, he said the game is using current tech, but is also using "new tech" that helps make the game "really fast". So it seems Saber Interactive is just involved on the tech side, but we'll see.
- He reiterated that this game will have everything Quake fans love, including true arena level design and fast movement, but they're introducing classes to not only entice new players, but to give experienced Quake fans something new.

WTF. That's neither something like TF2/Overwatch or a classic Arena shooter.
That sounds like a standalone multiplayer of those PvP battlegrounds in MMORPGS.
GG and bye.
