Hi, maybe this could be a easy cheap way how to fu*k with starforce with connected IDE DVD drive. I have not tried it yet, but it really can work. What about IDE to USB2 convertor? I mean something like this http://www.cwol.com/usb/usb-2-ide-adapter-ud200.htm or this http://www.czechcomputer.cz/product.jsp?artno=31234 (and there are some others like this). It makes your IDE DVD writer > USB DVD writer with same speed etc. and as i read in forums, Starforce games run without problems with USB drives. I dont have this convertor yet, but if anyone of you have a chance to try it with some SF games it would be nice to tell us if it works...

Hey,
Has anyone used a ATA100 PCI IDE card with your DVD drives to get by StarForce? I used one and it worked great! The only problem was that is was slow for burning and my 160GB drive only would show up as a 137GB. I recently bought a SIIG ATA133 SC-PE4B12 32-bit PCI IDE High-Speed Dual Channel Host Controller for $32.99 from Newegg.com. This card is unbelievabley fast and allows my 160GB to show up in XP as a 160GB drive. Anyway, I connected my 2 DVD burners to IDE 1 and my other 2 hard drives to IDE 2. Everything is working great as I can burn fast as if I was using my mobo IDE ports. The only problem is my StarForce games don't work now! I keep getting the please put in the disc message. I was able to play King Kong, Suffering 2 and Prince of Persia The Two Thrones with the old IDE PCI card but I cannot with the new one. Has one else run into this? Do you know why and what's the difference?
Thanks,
CNM

I used to run this method when DT4 was not released but take care : this should not work anymore with SF >= 3.7 (SF updates the windows usb driver for version higher than 3.7 to fix this emulation hole") So i think it is not useful to switch to an external USB drive . It's better to follow DT4 improvments (IDE jammer + DT pro version for full virtual ide drive)

Have you heard any type of time table for the IDE Jammer and DT Pro? Are they saying months or weeks?
Thanks

It IS useful to switch to external usb drive, you can just switch on and off. Buy an enclosure from local pc store or Ebay and put existing optical drive in, no need for sfnitemare,sdhide,sfcure,sr7stop or virtual cd hide, ALL games work for me now with just image or mini-image.
EDIT: By all games I mean all starforce, safedisc and securom protected games.

Hello,
I posted the above problem almost a week ago. I did some tests on my pc and found out that if you go to Device Manager and go to SCSI and RAID Controllers, all you have to do is disable the Silicon Image SiI 0680 ATA/133 Controller. You will see a red X appear over the device showing you it's disabled. Controller is the key! This is why you cannot disable your Secondary Channel on your mobo to get StarForce games to work. You would have to disable your controller on your mobo, but that would be stupid because then your Windows would lock up and it wouldn't boot because there is no connection to your IDE Drives! You need to disable the controller on a PCI IDE card so that StarForce cannot see any of the channels that your optical drive is on! Your normal mobo IDE controller is still enabled but the SIIG PCI IDE card gives you another controller to disable. Now go ahead and double click on your StarForce game you just installed. It will go through the StarForce authenication and if you just installed it ask for the StarForce key. Enter in the key and it will authenticate and let you through! I was so pissed when I bought the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16815150022 because none of my StarForce games worked. It would just hit the protection screen barking at me to put in the correct cd. I couldn't go back to my old PCI IDE card because when I burned a DVD it would take 400% longer. Also my 160GB drive would only show up as a 137GB drive! So now I have the best of both worlds and a 153GB of space to use instead of 128GB of free space! When you are done playing and want to burn a DVD or just use it, go back into Device Manager and enable it. There will be no loss of drive letter or anything bad. It will redetect your DVD drives and put them back the way they were before you disabled! I am going to test this on King Kong, Suffering 2 and SCCT when I get home from work. But if it worked on Prince of Persia The Two Thrones it will work on those older StarForce games too! So, I am good until the DTools Pro and IDE Jammer come out. Hey, I spent only $32.99 at NewEgg.com from the above link! The only thing you need is an open PCI slot on your mobo. Plug in the PCI IDE card to your open PCI slot and when Windows XP boots up it will plug and play it. Now just put in the driver diskette and you are all set to go after a reboot! You cannot do better and I don't have to unplug my optical drives!!!! The reason I went with this method instead of the USB method was because you get two more IDE ports! I have an extra 80GB drive installed because of this. Also, if your mobo supports it, this SIIG PCI IDE card has two jumpers on it for IDE1 and IDE2 activity LEDs. So when you have hard drives or DVD roms plugged in you will see the 2 LED lights below your #1 LED light blinking when the drives on the SIIG PCI IDE card are doing someting. Sometimes all of my LEDs 1,2 and 3 are blinking simultaneously! My old PCI IDE card didn't have this so you were blind to activity.
Oh yeah, you can make a shortcut on your task bar for the Device Manager as well to make it even easier. Just go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\devmgmt.msc and make a shortcut for this file on your task bar. Now you can get to the Device Manager in just 1 click and then disable the Silicon Image SiI 0680 ATA/133 Controller!
I hope this helps someone out,
L8r,
CNM
