It's not like the old one will disapear when a newer one comes out.
Besides, I think it's fun to see how they've tried to improve a otherwise old movie with todays technology. If a remake turns out to suck, what is ruined besides the remake? I don't really think the whole "Robocop" name will be dirty because of a bad remake.
Oh well, I think remakes can be good. Each to his own. |
Well isn't that the point of a "classic"?
I don't want to see new effects/actors/production hence "classic" and not to mention if a new generation doesn't like what they are seeing. Yes what if a remake succeeds like batman begins, but then again I think that's something else.
If you ask me they should only do a remake if the movie needs it, aging, script etc etc... I wouldn't call above movies "old" would you? Re-using the same source from a shakespear play is something else. Yes im gonna watch PJ "King Kong" because the original made me sleepy... but the original is over 70 years old :O
80's was a while ago, but they are NOT that old... Aliens is still a masterpiece etc etc
Mutant, please read my post again I inlcuded Evil Dead, how could I forget that ?
"I don't really think the whole "Robocop" name will be dirty because of a bad remake."
Well that depends on entirely if the movie is great or bad (see "avp") which deestroyed a big part of the alien legacy, remmeber if the remake does bad, there's a small chance they'll make a sequel to the originals. Which also could mean if it succeeds we'll see a new sequel to the original.
Here's how I view it
A remake is only neccesary if
The movie is old
The movie sucked in the first place
Im sorry but I do belive a remake of the above movies will make things a LOT worse then they already are

Movie industry is getting saturated. It's hard to come up with good ideas that haven't been done or taken. All you can hope for is a good remake.
If you hate it, ignore it.

Yupp, Hollywood sucks big time, more and more quantity and less quality.
I stated most of it already in my fuck Unrated thread.
Now they are quite through with their Comic conversions/remakes (which imo most are pretty nice) e.g. F4, Batman Begins, Electra, Aeon Flux, Spiderman (which started it all), The Punisher, Sin City, Daredevil bla bla etc. Only one missing is Superman Returns, which will be out 2006 having a special feature: Brandon Routh's little Superman will be cgi reduced in size! Weee this is gonna be the first Superman with a baby cock! I love prude America! Good, so the Comic Conversions are over - what's next? Ah yes, remakes of Japanese Horror Movies together + Unrated Version half year later. (Ring, Grudge, Dark Water bla bla etc.)
Great! So, next will be the Sequels, which come now (2006-2008)
We have:
Rocky VI
Rambo IV
Indiana Jones IV
Evil Dead IV
Looks like Ford and Stallone have to leave their retirement castles and get back to the set - I hope they won't be struck by rheumatism during the shooting.
I'm gonna watch South Park Season 6 Episode 9: "Free Hat" now - it's so true...

its just a money grab, thatsall no one is willing to take a chance on an original idea. It will keep happening till they stop making money. But to be honest allmost every movie follows the same formulas since greek theater. And wasnt piracy supposed to kill off the movie industry? they make more money than ever and release pure shit.

lol With that cast it was gonna be straight to cable anyway.
Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one
