No Man's Sky dev received 'loads of death threats' due to delay
Quote:
This week there were rumblings that No Man's Sky would be delayed, and eventually a confirmation that the game is now being held back until August 9, 2016. A majority of the internet reacted in a calm manner, while others decided to accuse Kotaku of lying and apparently made death threats. Death threats over a video game being delayed. Seriously.

Seriously.

Meh, I have little sympathy for the devs. They made the fatal error of overhyping their game and then pushing it back and back and back. The way the hype worked, it should have been released several months ago at the peak of the hype. For a game that will end up being a disappointment (my guess but it's a calculated one) the devs sure know how to throw oil on the fire.

Some of the insults is probably to be expected in today's gaming community though downright death threats is a bit above that.

i agree that making death threats is overkill(in every situation) but nowadays everybody mindlessly makes death threats to everyone they want. Even youtube commentators are getting death threats for criticizing a game or some shit.

it's totally normal nowadays i tell ya Laughing

I still don't think there is ANYTHING to be excited about.
Nothing about what they have shown warrants that hype. It looks like simple rng indie game that got to be 60$ Laughing

Who cares if a world is automatically generated and there can be a lot of it? I would prefer less more varied, hand crafted areas. Well, I guess we will see what the game is about when it comes out.

Right now every gameplay is: "go to planet, look at indie graphics, fire at purple cow, fight gta police, run to another planet, fight green cow..."

But so is binding of isaac when You talk about it and its great... so yeah Laughing

That's the thing, different strokes and all that.
To me it just appeals because the vastness of the universe, exploring and the graphical style. I'm a space enthusiast so it has a bit of an easier time to interest me

But yeah I agree, I don't think the price is warranted (pretty much paying for the sony marketing), the hype machine is way to absurd for what they have.

There's death threats and then there's death threats. Some little oik screaming 'I'll kill you' on the internet isn't a death threat, it's a little shit with anger issues and the killing power of a constipated slug. Surely you can't take every mention of it as a serious threat, when it obviously isn't.

I'm really disappointed by the delay, seemingly in the minority of people really looking forward to this, but a funny anecdote; I called out any anonymous shit trolls throwing death threats around over the delay and some random nutjob started having a go at me on Twatter (uh oh! Gendered slang twisting of a word into genitalia and using it as an insult!) calling me a SJW for speaking out about a "crime" that wasn't proven to have happened.

Me. A septic jaundice wanker.

Wait, there was an official date set and they broke it a few times now?

Or is it just rumours? Also, do they want the game to come out earlier but not ready? The shitstorm will be immense if it's buggy for example.

I usually want games to be delayed if they're going to come out in a better shape. Fuuck, sometimes I don't start a serious playthrough unless a couple of patches are out, especially with RPGs or very resource-intensive games.

It's rare that I play games on release compared to my earlier gaming days. For the reasons: DLC's, Expansions, Game of the year additions, Season Pass,... and the buggy state they release in.

Its almost always better to wait and experience the full/working game. Only my hype gets in the ways at times... but for RPG's I usually stick to it. If I'm going to invest 50+ hours into a game I rather not take chances

It was officially due to come out at the end of June. Now it is officially due to come out in mid-August, assuming no further delays. I don't know if it was pushed back previously (at least publicly/officially).

How much you want to bet the delay had something to do with this?

Quote:
No Man's Sky, the hotly anticipated adventure game due out this summer, won't suffer a last-minute name change. Hello Games founder Sean Murray tweeted last night that the company had just settled with Sky, the UK's largest pay-TV broadcaster.

Murray didn't state what the terms of the settlement are, but apparently the legal battle has been plaguing Hello for years

Fucking Sky. They are the same in Germany, just because nobody wants their overpriced crap.

There was a report of Sky some months/years ago already, where they fought a legal war against some other company.

I rage a lot when I see things like this. For fuck's sake, Sky ain't some strange, uncommon name that could be owned / trademaked. Most people see it every day and use it quite often. Hell, they should sue every weather forecast programme in British, US or any other English-speaking TV...

Microsoft was one of them. OneDrive used to be called SkyDrive until Sky took them to court and won...

Hello, Sean here, working super, super hard on No Man’s Sky.

Every day, the game is getting better and better, and despite all the late nights (and early mornings) we’re all working to get it finished and in your hands, it’s amazing to see it all coming together.

You might already know this, but we had to delay the game from its original June release date. It’s now August 9 in north America, and August 10 in Europe. We knew that people would be disappointed, and we’ve certainly heard a lot from some who decided to tell us all about that. But we’ve also heard some super nice words of support as we make the final push.

I’ve said it before, but No Man’s Sky is the hardest thing I’ve ever worked on. It’s even bigger than you can imagine. This is a type of game that hasn’t been attempted before, by a smaller team than anyone would expect, under an intense amount of expectation.

And despite all of that, development is genuinely going well. This is the hardest working, most talented team I’ve ever worked with, and I’m so proud of what we’re doing. For all our sakes though, we get one shot to make this game and we can’t mess it up.

So that’s what we’re doing right now, and every day I feel more sure it was the right decision. Thank you so much for your support and patience. The universe will be yours very soon.
