Seems the bad performance on older cards and all is present only on some levels. Second and third levels was bad for me then 4-11 is smooth all the time and now when i loaded 12 is super bad again for no reason.

lmao at it being not deep

gory kills have an actual purpose in the gameplay and aren't just a gimmick, they're a resource
mods give a lot more tactical depth to weapons so you switch out depending on what you're up against
chainsaw is basically resource management
air movement and the whole idea of moving around to stay alive

i mean cover shooters with regenerating health aren't anything deep I think, it's basically just a rails game where you wait and see

DOOM is more like a resource management simulator where you farm hellspawn for resources and stuff

Goddamn, this game is great. Haven't played a real nice fast shooter like this in a while... even Wolfenstein felt slow compared to this.

Playing on Hurt Me Plenty I had to adapt to that playstyle again in the first levels, kept dying Laughing Now it's fine, it's nice having to use spatial awareness again, keeping in mind where enemies are compared to you, constantly moving and jumping, keeping track of ammunition count for the different weapons, sploding barrels, collecting powerups... man, can't wait to get home from work.

The more important problem is, that you will need a russian VPN to play the game.

Limits of SnapMap revealed..

Yep that's quite BEYOND iTard but not remotely shocking: didn't 2004's Doom3 also hit a limit AND isn't this just limited to 3d engines these days for a decade+ whereas back in the 90s it was still spites/flat maps?

Still.. 12 spawnable monsters AT ONE TIME?!?! Damn that's pathetic! Should be unlockable for systems that can handle it. Mad

There's a console command for it, it's locked though unfortunately.

I just finished the game, devouring it like a Cacopacman (courtesy of a kind family Humper *men hugs*), the last time that I had so much fun with a single-player id title was...I can't even remember, perhaps in 1997 with Quake 2, go figure. I'm quite impressed, id, you magnificent deceiving bastards, you nailed it. Dude Surprised This is surprising and quite amazing, a return to form that I thought it would never happen after the empty promises and disappointing (imo) releases in the last 15 years.
But what amazes me the most is the fact that Bethesda/whoever monkey was responsible for the marketing were keeping all this hidden behind layers of silly off-putting videos played sloth_mode with gamepads, not to mention the multiplayer beta which could have served as an embarrassing Bungie spin-off, as well as the limited Snapchat lego.
Fast, meaty shooting, satisfying sound effects and pumping synth-metal, with a design that isn't the usual *insert cinematic next gen derp-o-rama here*, not to mention the visuals which I found surprisingly damn great Me Gusta (also considering the risky tech involved, it could have gone so wrong) - as well as the performance (third surprise in a row), since the game has never gone below the 80fps for me on Ultra/1080p/SMAA (except for the capped cutscenes).

This Doom Reboo is perhaps the AAA shooter that resembles old-school shooters the most, though [criticism time] it doesn't mean that it's flawless. In fact, the automatic finishing moves are and will always feel like a freak/out of the place addition to me, I finished the game avoiding them almost completely, and the gameplay benefited immensely from it, although seeing all the enemies being stunned like chickens for several seconds wasn't optimal at times. No quick-saving was a bummer as well, so it occasionally was the level design itself, which I found good but not as brilliant/varied/inspired as the original Doom 1/2, also because there were too many rinse and repeat happy lockdown arena moments to spoil the party a little.

I'd say that the recommended way to enjoy the game at its fullest involves:
- playing on Ultra-Violence (anything below that doesn't give enough challenge in my opinion)
- disabling all the silly HUD makers/compasses/huge crosshairs (it's Doom, not Cow-a-doodly Mad)
- disabling the (horrible, horrible) fluorescent glowing and avoid using the yo-yo "glory" safeboat as much as possible-> plan battles beforehand instead and never stop moving, don't be a Polygon Cool Face
Still, what a bloody enjoyable ride it was. I'd give it a solid 8+/10, really really hope we can see more of this in the future (and I think we will, dat cliffhanger Razz), since these guys know what they're doing, it would be a shame to go back to visceral slow shooting ducks again.

Sounds good. now to free up some SSD space for the inevitable mega texture 50gb+ installation, and hoping that the shared account D license jackpot hits Laughing

hopefully it brings back the feels of FPS goodness like blood did for me just this past week

The performance is really odd at my end , when i started the game the first area ran like shit 25 fps or so , then after i finished and moved to the next area/zone i had 50-60 fps no problems , everything was fine until i went first time in
 Spoiler:

the next open-ish outdoor area i had again 25-ish fps , then after the first checkpoint was fine again 60 fps or so even tho it was pretty much very similar and used same assets.
Some areas kill fps for me really bad and i can't figure out why , there's nothing special about them. Anyone have this problem ?

Oh and the game is awesome , thanks konkol84 you rock mate Very Happy

out of sig inspiration for the moment Okay

@ixigia nice review and i enjoyed the game too. I do think they were heavily inspired by the shadow warrior reboot, I would give that a play if you havnt.. Also still think there is room for improvement.

I would have liked trap rooms, puzzle levels etc, the classic still have more varied gameplay. I actually prefer the less and situational weapons of the classics too, many of thr guns in new doom are quickly OP, not to mention chainsaw and gore kills equate to idkfa + iddqd mode on any difficulty.

Guys? Is this what constitutes a good game these days? faster and more badasser gameplay than CoD.. yes, everyone was shitting on CoD because the gameplay was fast.. Must suit the ADHD kids.. Or so was the nature of the arguments used (I don't like CoD fyi). It has no story to speak of, and the horrible arenas and endlessly spawning enemies one after the other. I honestly do not see why this is a good game.

I'm not sure why Dragon age 2 comes to mind.....

If ALL shooters were like this, it would indeed be considered mediocre.

I think the positive feedback come from the fact that, in a world filled with modern "chest-high-wall-hugging cover-based regenerating-health follow-the-team-leader linear military fpses" this old-school approach feels more "new" than the "new" shooters.

Also, I don't think when people criticize COD for being "fast" they literally mean player movement speed. I think it's more the fact that when playing a COD campaign you just go through the level very quickly, following the rest of your team from one "wave" of enemies to the other, with literally zero exploration and often not even the freedom to pause in your tracks and just have a look around.

Also, nostalgia.

And fast doesn't mean sprint-cover-sprint-cover enemies die in 2 hits and so do you, fast here means jump through the level like a madman, dodging projectiles, enemies, shooting several rockets into the face of the huge monstrosities chasing you, switching to your shotgun because all the ammo from your other weapons is drained, then curb-stomping the last death knight whom you got to low health with your remaining trusty pistol.

Until this game I didn't know how much I missed jumping around with a rocket launcher, thinking ahead where the enemy will be in the next half second and firing there already. Oh the satisfying feeling when that perfectly aimed rockets flight path hits the enemy in mid air So Much Win

Quick question. Can it be borrowed via Family Share or I have to lend my whole Steam account to my friend?

uwotm8?

Who ever said COD was fast? If anything, it is SLOW. And very low skill ceiling. And shit.

This however is fast, and you have to have quick decision making as well. The game is very easy in the beginning to bring people in, when you are 6 hours in on Nightmare, now that is a pure joy.

Many weapons, 4 ammo types to keep track of/ Some fights go on for minutes in the arena, and the enemies keep coming, and you stop for a second, you are dead. And that is no exaggeration, imps kill you in two shots, even when you have upgraded. So many stuff to dodge, so many enemies to navigate and kill in order (because you do have to prioritize some over the others, shooting the closest one will not work).

It is about fast reflexes, fast dodging, fast shooting, and fast decision making. It is absolutely great. We haven't seen a shooter this good in ages. Nothing comes close for me these last 10 years.

And it has just enough story to keep the adrenaline constantly pumping.

Yes, it works via family sharing and if you, or the account owner, as in offline mode then it won't block the other person playing at the same time. Thanks again to konkol

if they would rid themselves of the arena crap, enemies that keep spawning for what seems like an eternity and have an engaging story then i would love it. I just can't get immersed in something just for the gameplay alone anymore Sad
