I already had 2x 4gb Gskill ram installed in my machine. Got 2 other 4gb stick, same brand, same type, exactly the same thing. Installed the 2 other sticks, my computer didnt open. So I played a little with my ram sticks and notices that my computer didnt started when one of my old stick was plugged in.
Could I have done something wrong installing my 2 new sticks making one of the old ones blow up? I know I was really carefull so I didnt touched it while installing the 2 new ones.
Asus Z97-A and it's G.Skill Sniper DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866.
It's weird because yesterday my 2 old sticks worked fine, and when I installed my 2 new sticks, one of my old one stopped working. I'm running with 12gb now (3x 4gb) and everything works fine, but as soon as I plug the old one my computer wont boot and I have the DRAM red led on on my mobo.
Even though I never touched it while installing my 2 new sticks, could it be that a static charge blew one of them or something similar?
Gskill has lifetime warranty for RAM so i'm gonna RMA it and get a new one, but I was wondering what caused this suddent failure.
second: do the both old sticks still work together? or lets say it different: does the one who "crashes" the system works when its plugged in alone? does it work in every ram slot?
Yes, the faulty stick makes my computer crash each time it's plugged it, whatever the stick/slot combo is. And yeah I pressed the mem ok button a couple of time with the faulty stick installed in different slot and still nothing. Really weird.
I guess it must have been static or just a weird coincidence!
if it doesnt work at all anymore -> return it. if you bought it as 2x4GB Kit you will have to return both units. just go to the gskill website and start to rma process
