this is the only category now? In the past, there was a glitch free category as well, I remember it for quake 1 and hl1 at least. Times were longer, but it was pure skill and memorization.

Anyways, hoping someone can share doom with me next week (PM if you can, I can share any of the past D games I own), as I am on the 4th episode of Blood 1, which is pretty damn tough on "extra crispy". I plan on finishing the game over the weekend, and I would love to see how the new Doom compares to that.

Can someone explain to me, how he is able to play this when he is really blind?

His movement and shooting don't really imply that he is blind.

I would understand if he plays according to what he hears. But even in the beginning he can read the different difficulties just fine.

legally blind:

Quote:
Reduced central visual acuity of 20/200 or less in your better eye with use of the best eyeglass lens to correct your eyesight; or...
Limitation of your field of view such that the widest diameter of the visual field in your better eye subtends an angle no greater than 20 degrees.

Damn that spider mastermind was damn hard, it had been a while since I had to retry a few times for a boss, just like good old days.
Uhhmmm wut... that was a joke compared to the Titan Guards especially since the Spider Mastermind DID NOT RESURRECT and by that point yer stats are very high. Even the Cyber Demon was more difficult. Other thing: Spider Mastermind paused far too much so it was too easy to take out. Hate it when bosses pause.. Pah! You should be fighting for each and every second but with the end boss: far too many freebee moments. Mad

That's weird, I killed Titan Guards without dying once, and i definitely died less on the cyberdemon than the spider mastermind.

It was easier for me to strafe both of their attacks than spider mastermind, specially that electricity thing with spikes.

Shooting the BFG into the spiderminds face when she was going for a combo was key. Stuns her and then you can rush in and give her several nice rounds of the Super Shotty.

Problem was the pausing: stupid arse Spider Demon paused whereas neither the CyberDemon or the Titan Guards ever did + both those bosses re-spawned so if you were low on health and ammo. ah well.. guess everyone experienced it a little diff but what I seriously liked was all the bosses' different attack types. AWESOME!! So much great variety there whereas all previous Dooms never had that!

Dang. This game is fucking awesome. Unless I'm forgetting something this is my favorite straight up FPS since Wolfenstein The New Order. Which means that we get like 1 great FPS in every 2 years. Which is not great. Sad

I'm enjoying this one even more than W:TNO but it's more close to a tie with Shadow Warrior as the best pure first-person shooters in the last few years.

Ah yes, Shadow Warrior. A pretty great game though I have my complaints about it but the reason I didn't think of it was mainly because I spent most of that game slicing and dicing with the katana and not shooting any weapons. Very Happy

If we include third person shooters as well, I'd say we had a good run of one great shooter campaign per year.
Max Payne 3 - Bioshock Infinite - W:TNO - W:TOB - DOOM (yes I spell it in capital letters, it fucking deserves it)

It is definitely true, the panorama of first person shooters these days is a scarily barren one. Long gone are the days when we would have 5-6 top-tier undiluted quality pew-pewing every year *sheds tear, remembering the golden era when we weren't a Personal Console yet*

One/two decent shooters per year could be an acceptable trade-off after all, it could always get worse (the derp, it has no limits!). It's implied though that we constantly have to accept compromises in terms of couch-ization, that goes without saying sadly. Razz Laughing Speaking of which, among the recent-ish good entries I'd also add Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon (better than both the main game and the sequel, imo) yer Metro Last Light, Rise of the Triad Reboo and The Darkness II to the ones already mentioned.

well i tried it, pretty much felt like I expected.. if you love the oldschool style of fps, just endless waves of frantic combat (NOT a judgement, just a statement), then I can see why this would appeal. My tastes have changed over the years, and I prefer more atmospheric/story driven games, and to that end theres not much in doom of interest for me. It was a nice little 10 minute distraction but.. yeah, just not for me Smile

Will say this though, It seems to run super well.. the brief bit I played, i cranked everything up to ultra and had 60 fps (though I dont know if later areas are more graphically intensive), and it looked... I mean It looked nice enough.

Also, turns out im significantly better at this game than polygon, so theres that at least Troll Face

I'm pretty sure they will release MP-stuff the first months only.

After that we hopefully see an expansion pack for the SP.

Amazing SP makes you feel like a bad ass ripping everything to shreds. In hell, they probably have a horror game where you play as a hell minion and you're being hunted down by the DOOM Slayer/Marine/Chef whatever.

I'm a bit old though that I can only do a level or two per day. But damn does the thing make you feel bad ass.
