Vive can be used seated, what prevents you from sitting down?

The rest I cant comment on, as the are mostly opinions on which side you are on.
But this one I can.
Because you can sit down in it, doesn't mean until its 'wore thin' of being used it wont be built into it as a part of the vive experience into games.
Im assuming that 90% of the games made for the vive, the devs are going to go crazy trying to implement "oooh look you can walk around a small space!" into them, even in games that dont need it, but can be added. Since its a 'thing' vive offers as its exclusive perk.

I mean look at the games/demos made so far, vast majority of them play up using it in some capacity and since its made into it, if roomscale isnt big enough for you to use, you lose a bit of the intent of the game devs vision that played to roomscale.
So while you CAN sit with the vive, most games made for it will try to exploit that option of moving around to some degree "because we can!". Seated experience games wont be the norm in it for a while, until customers get to the point of "yea yea, we get it, I can walk 2 feet that way and touch things".

I hope the walking crap dies off fast. I'm just not interested in it unless you have one of those devices where you can walk any way on the same spot.

I'm fine with conventional controllers/wheels/sticks/Mouse+keyb to do the moving with. I absolutely hate the teleportation gimmick. The walk 2 meters is fun in the beginning but becomes drab rather fast

Yea me too, while roomscale is 'cool'. It takes away from the game to me as far as moving around the map itself.
Since you cant walk anywhere far, most devs are using the teleport to spot as the way to move around. That just seems stupid to me and the most unnatural way to handle it.

Let me walk like normal with a push to walk key like games have done for 25 years, and keep roomscale so I can interact with things when I stop walking.

I didnt like Vive's comfort, its too front heavy, I didnt like their controllers the oculus solution when it becomes available is way more comfort oriented. I just find oculus more fitting in every way, easier to get immersed into the experience.

I just wish oculus didn't fuck up so badly with their launch. :/ i'm tempted litteraly every single day to cancel & get a vive.
I basicly need to reassure myself on a daily basis by reading reddit & whatnot that the rift is more worth it (ATW, comfort etc) especially once touch comes, its just really depressing that people that barely even knew what VR was 2 months ago have their headsets already while people who have been with them since the kickstarter are still waiting another month. just ridiculus.

Again not understanding the sit/stand argument, with vive you can play any VR demo seated just like with the Rift provided Oculus havnt paid off the devs to screw you out of money and options.

It just gives you the option to also use roomscale if you choose.

You can yes, but vast majority of stuff for the vive, like I said a few post back, is made to take advantage of the room scale. very few of its games/demos are made so sitting is the 'right' (or even possible) way to do it.

Like job simulator, you CAN sit down and play it. but its a pain in the ass.
And the lab, its damn near impossible to do parts of it sitting down (from what I hear).
Fantastic contraption you cant do sitting down easily.
Hover junkies moving, dodging and ducking is part of the gameplay mechanics.
Tilt brush I guess you could, if you want to only draw in a tiny 1/2 sphere around you.

Vives 'gimmick' is roomscale, so you can bet devs are going to cram it into every part of the game they can, if it is needed or not.
So while you can sit, like I said in my last post about it, until the 'roomscale' newness wears thin and users start wanting sitdown games, you can bet the vast majority of games made will incorporate moving, bending over to look under/around/through things, walking 2 feet to reach something, or anything else devs can think of to make it part of the gameplay.

So its not if you can sit down just as well with the vive, its when the devs get around to stop featuring roomscale as a core of the game and make ones you CAN sit down to do in it.

As of now its
Vive: it has roomscale so expect most the game to make you move around the room "because...ROOMSCALE!".
Rift: it doesnt so expect most games to be sit down games.

until the time there is a lot of cross device games, devs are targeting one or the other based on if they think "moving around" needs to be in the gameplay mechanics.

However, these Rift games you mention that require no roomscale can be ported to the Vive. The Vive games that require roomscale cannot be ported to the Rift......

@DXWarlock again your not making sense. Why would you play roomscale games seated? You can play any other title that has been designed for sitting unless its been bribed off by facebook (even then u unoffially run them).

You wouldn't, thats what Im saying. but sit down games for the vive is the exception right now.

Vive has roomscale, so 95% of people making games (at least for the next few months until the novelty wears off) will use it, regardless if the game needs it. "Just because..well its there to use!".
Go look at steam vive market, VAST majority of them are stand up games.

Im not saying it isnt possible, Im saying at this time for a bit after launch, you got a vive, you do standing games...because thats about all there is.
So its not you can't sit down in the vive, but good luck finding the far and between games that let you until a lot of cross compatible games start coming out. But as it stands now..you get a vive, plan on standing for the next few months, you get a rift, plan on sitting for the next few months.
(unless you do the unofficial hacks to run rift games, but got to remember not a majority of people that get the vive will know how, or even thats its possible.)

Well ReVive is super easy to use and integrates into steamVR already, making all Oculus Home games easily accessible from there as if they were native SteamVR games.
If someone doesn't know it exists then that's their problem, but it's not a problem if you know about it and have access to pretty much all VR has to offer right now.

35% of my 21 SteamVR games are seated btw.

What about not wanting to put 300€ more in a HMD set with the only benefit is "Roomscale" which I would not be able to use anyway ?

I would have canceled my Rift preorder if Vive beat it quality wise which, as far as I know, isn't the case.

I think the only thing you are doing is letting your emotions run hot and reading what you want to read rather than understanding the reasonable points that were made.

If you are talking in the sense of what others have said on social media or elsewhere... don't bother it's not what me or DX were on about/talking of.

I swear some people are way too sensitive about their devices/products these days.

I don't want to get into a pissing contest as I am an avid fan of oculus for what they have achieved so far.

From what I have understood they created a more comfortable easier accessible device for the masses which is great for everyone in VR space I say.

I agree that for now the Vive is all about standing experiences as you'd expect when it is being promoted as room scale. Not that it cant do seated just like oculus, pcars etc seems to be great for a seated experience on both.

But if you have a mate with a vive i highly suggest you to at least try it. Having arrows fired at you in Vanishing realms and side stepping behind a pillar or instinctively dodging is something you'd find hard seated.

Not saying it is a complete game changer and will wtfpwnbbq or anything but it is a great experience as well.

Either way i love both devices for what they are trying to achieve Smile

Works flawless for me. You must be doing something wrong Smile are you SURE you have checked Unknown Sources?? Cos that should be enough.

Then some game insist on starting Vives setup - close it and start it 2-3 more times and it works (there is probably a better way - but ive really not put that much energy into it as this works for me)

Edit: Btw - subnautica works really great with Rift Smile Problem i have no is that ive got so many VR games installed i never can decide what to play Razz
