This was my first Dark Souls game (never played 1 or 2) and damn I have died so often...
I played 36h and reached the fight againt the dancer of Boreal valley. After 30 tries, I decided to summon some help to defeat him.
I think I like the fact that the game is hard and challenging, what I hate is that upon death you have to replay sometimes lengthy sections from the previous bonfire, again and again.
I also would have appreciated more info on weapons, upgrades, leveling for newcomers.

Anyway I decided to take a break because the frustration the game generates compensates for the satisfaction of progression and defeating bosses (I am having fun with Doom multiplayer and SP right now). I don't know if I will return to the game afterwards... This one might not be for me.

I don't think the road from bonfires to boss doors are lengthy in DS3... And you can just run all the way to door without fighting anyone. Ofc, if you wanna summon someone at the door it can be tricky to avoid enemies Very Happy

yeah this is my first souls game (ive dabbled with the others but never stuck with them) and never found the run to the bosses all that bad.. usually you can open doors to make the run much shorter, and once you know the way, you know where the enemies are, the path to take, when to run, when to dodge, and it usually takes only 20 or so seconds to get back to the boss

Well I agree it could be worse, but when you know you'll need 20+ faceoffs with a boss to learn his patterns and dodge his attacks, you would prefer a dozen of seconds of waiting time in between each attemps. Not 2 minutes.
Also some regular enemies (not bosses) are quite tough and may require repeating the same parts again and again to reach them.
Did you guys defeat the 2 giant rats down the big ladder in Anor Londo? Damn I gave up on them because although not so far from a bonfire, you need to walk minimum 2 minutes to get to them.

You get a really good ring for killing them, tho Smile
Try to aggro only one, and stay away from the other one until you got that one down.

still here.. still alive...

just did the dancer fight. i watched someone else playing the game wayyyy back 3 years ago when it was new (at least thats how long ago it feels - does time move slowly in ds games?) and frankly this one freaked me out. the size, the way it moved, id be dreading this for the whole fucking game

turned out the bitch was a bit of a pushover. Biggest problem was making sure i got in close enough - no joke, i think i blew through 5 flasks at the start of the fight, before i even landed a hit.. but from then on it was mostly cake and managed to do it on my first try.

Dancer was really passive and slow at the start of the fight, for me. Got a lot of free hits on her before she started to get more aggressive. Still nailed her on first try Fuck Yeah

What's the point of invading other players ? I barely get any souls for winning and there are no rewards other than some ears Surprised

The person who placed bonfires in the game must've been drunk - there's a bonfire on every step, sometimes very, very, very close to each other. What's the point of such design ?

In certain areas that's true, but I don't agree it's the case in general. I think they were very well placed in general to go against the unending grinding of killing the same minor enemies again and again.

The general concept is "fight your way through a hard area, collect loot, and at the end of the road activate the shortcut so you don't have to keep going through the same area and group of enemies". Works pretty well IMO.

Also, most of the bonfires in boss arenas give that illusion of a bonfire at every step, but their purpose is to facilitate co-op for boss fights, which is completely ok.
