It makes sense that a more casual game sells better than their predecessors. After all Call of Duty sells better than Arma. ;)
Jokes aside, Stellaris is way more accessible than their earlier games and it was marketed quite well. It also has a fresh space theme for being a Paradox game. Paradox has started to get a lot more well known since CK2 became pretty popular in let's play circles and twitch streams. Cities Skylines which they published was also very well received.
PC gaming is growing as a whole, so this coupled with what I mentioned above doesn't make these sales records that surprising to me.

I was having fun. Until a bunch of flying crystals decimated my military fleet and attacked my home system.

Ok, anyone know how to setup the AI to automate some aspects of my empire? I'm like 300 years in and the micromanagement is getting out of hand.
I've setup sectors with military focus, they're suppose to auto build defense stations, doesn't seem to work for me however. They aren't building their own constructors, I can't assign ships to sectors. I can't let the AI handle the garrisons of both defending fleets and armies, they don't auto produce, etc.
When I get into a war, enemies could just jump into my empire at multiple fronts and the amount of micro needed to fight a smart war is insane. Since there are no actual fronts like other grand strategies, it is really difficult to hold while conducting offensive operations. Plus it doesn't help that the game is real time and there are no smart auto pause when some of my ships complete their orders.

Click on an enemy fleet, then on the detail button on one of the ship in the fleet. You'll see it's current equipped parts. The FTL drive should be there.
There may be an easier way but I havent found it yet

There's still a really annoying bug in 1.01 where you get 10% energy penalty for capping over the planet limit even when at 5/5 planets. It can be fixed by reloading old save, but keeps popping up often when you build colony ship at 5/5.
Besides that, I've actually experience very few bugs. Quests would often spawn some steps into AI territory. Had to declare war to get to one of them. And once my science ship went MIA and could not be moved, so I had to disband it. Few bugs with diplomacy messages, and nothing else.
Game pulls like crazy. Even more so than anything else from Paradox. Real shame that AI is so braindead. AIs simply don't know how to expand through colonization, and colonization is vital for everything, from tech to production and energy, so player can quickly catchup even those couple empires that start with large advantage.

The ISOdemo CTD after loading to 15%. Anyone else has the same problem?

2a: a mode of satirical wit depending for its effect on bitter, caustic, and often ironic language that is usually directed against an individual

I just trade the right to pass civilian ships through their territory for a couple hundred minerals for 10y..

Yeah, I could do that with one empire, the other was my rival and at -190, so war had to be started. Who knows maybe that was even intended.

I think military focus tooltip is bit misleading. I don't think sectors can build military stations, because those require constructor ships, and sectors don't have them. You can build them yourself with your own constructors though. I think military focus is only about planetary antiinvasion buildings. Sectors also require a lot of minerals to develop properly, so you must feed them to them through f2 menu whenever possible.

It started once after initial install and later gets loading to 15% and CTD. This happens before and after hotfix.
Well tough luck.

I've decided I'm getting too old for games like this... I do know I have a slight drug problem*, and as a result, my brain is not entierly capable of complex comptation... but I find after I've explored 9 or 10 systems, my ability to keep track of everything goes out of the window, and I inevitably get hit by some dodgy space aliens.
I never had that much of a problem in Civ... :'(
* Dihydrocodeine and Gabapentin... quite good but also has the side effect of opening the door to the 8th dimension.

Keep playing. The game gives you the option to decentralize and spawn sectors that manage themselves.

Any tips on how to increase influence? I'm doing ok with most of the resources but unfortunately I cannot get my influence to increase.

Rival your neighbors, tech up society techs (there are several which give +1 influence), sector out obsolete outposts, and also some buildings give +1 influence (empire update for the main building for example (can build only one of these))
