Ok, I am enjoying it so far. Visually it's damn impressive - I haven't got Uncharted 4 yet and so this is absolutely the nicest looking game I've played on my PS4. The game is HARD - I tried on the difficulty setting higher than it recommends, and got my ass handed to me over and over again, so I dropped down to the middle difficulty level. It would be easier with double jump, but it appears that's MP only.

The game is what people had suspected it would be - lots of filler then epic arena. At least, that is the case so far anyway. I enjoy it though - it presents a challenge and I wasn't expecting anything different. I really don't mind the glory kill system - I am actually enjoying it as a) it gives me a seconds break from the action where i cannot get hurt and b) I often really need the health / ammo. That reminds me, I am running out of ammo quite a bit - which is teaching me to shoot more accurately Smile I have also died numerous times on this normal difficulty setting, and regularly drop to 10-20 health before some powerful saves my ass. It's quite intense.

There is a story, although so far it's been pretty weak by all accounts. Just enough to make sense but really nothing impressive (Dead Space did storytelling in this kind of environment 100x better). I am worried people will be expecting things that Doom isn't - this is a move away from Doom 3 and back into 1/2 territory - and it does feel like a worthy successor.

The v1.02 "day one" patch is about 5gb in size. The game itself takes a while to load - and if you "switch out" into Snapmap you endure another 1+ minute load. There are some "local" snapmap levels already available to play, even though the Doom servers are offline. These are the levels shown in the Snapmap video we saw before.

I really enjoyed the MP, and cannot wait for Snapmap. The SP alone is definitely an 8-9 area so far - lots of secrets, hidden approaches, and the weapon upgrades are fun too. Oh and when that music kicks in during a battle...

So can you use SnapMap offline? Create your own levels and stuff? Also, I know this might be asking a lot, but could check to see if there's any way to tie an end-of-level map made in SnapMap to load another map you've created? If that makes sense? Very Happy

Hey. Only maps available are ones that "came with the game". They're the same levels you saw in the Snapchat video (e.g. the music one, the memory one, etc). You can play those, however you cannot create your own maps as it involves going online.

Therefore, I cannot yet answer your question (although I hope you can tie levels together to make proper episodic levels!)

Why is it bad to have remote-server based lockouts and restrictions and requirements on software you buy? Why is it bad that, at any time and for any reason or any whim, you can be prevented from playing something you legally bought?

I don't know. What could possibly be so bad about that?

Sad

Wondering the same too.

As much as it doesn't bother me to be online to be able to use a game in 2016 (gotta admit that my ISP is damn stable), the fact that a game has it MANDATORY while it could be optional is silly as a principle.

In the case of Diablo 3, I find it idiotic because it's obviously possible to play it offline (since console version work offline) yet they make you go online for some reason ?

It's ... difficult Smile

Very in depth - need to get the hang of it. So much customisation, but it's good fun.

Well thank you for clearing that up, I can't stand online-only restrictions. There's simply no reason for it.. in any game other than an MMO.

That's fair mate. Totally get it.

So, will you be getting Doom? At the moment I'm giving it a 9/10- it's a lot of fun and I cannot wait to get into Snapmap and MP

Enjoying it so far. I kinda regret reading the lore and the story is so weak and at times cringe worthy. Just got to chapter 7. The runes trials are super satisfying to complete lol.

It might be Kotaku, but at least they know that Doom needs real mods.
I saw someone create a petition for mods, but it has no momentum whatsoever. It has 1000 signatures so far, it would need way more than this for Bethesda to react.

Gawd damn it I'm back in hell and dying non-stop. Bloody difficult! People slammed the epic boss fights - I'm surprised, I guess you can't please everyone but I actually find it highly rewarding (when you beat them). Great game.
