any good video that really does a great job of going over the details of the gameplay. somehting that isn;t a 1hour plus livestream?
Im a massive CKII fan, believe its one of the greatest games ever designed and excuted honestly. So this game seems to be a dream for me. but I haven;t tracked it at all...have no idea what going on with it.

Yeah, thorough gameplay videos/sessions like the ones posted by Zmed definitely are the only way in my opinion to have a clear idea about all the details and intricacies in the game.
I've actually tried to avoid knowing too much because I like to discover stuff by myself as per usual, but perhaps an useful "in a nutshell" short recap is the official trailer that Djaoni posted a while back:

There's lots of devs from CKII on this one. It's still primarily a 4x space strategy, but you have plenty of gameplay elements from CKII and EU4 in this one. I'd say it's just a bit simplified overall, especially the combat. It has same system for leaders, generals, and different government options with elections as in CKII. Council is replaced by three scientists doing your research. Obviously, game is without family and direct succession, but leaders and explorers do age, and can die. Explorers are now the primary quest giver. You put them on unarmed ship and they explore anomalies, that can give you well written and branching text quests like those in CKII.
Another thing that is very similair is diplomacy and empire building. You have plenty of familiar options there. +/- opinion system. Vasals, allies, coalitions against you, and you even have an option to create an empire, or form a permanent alliance of different nations that they call federation.
They now have endings, and various end game invasions and fun things that should rise challenge in endgame. Extended Sunset Invasion option, I guess.
What's different the most to any game that they did is completely different map approach. Star systems in place of provinces, and they give you an option of three quite different approaches of travelling among them. https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/stellaris-dev-diary-4-means-of-travel.886502/
This is something that will effect the gameplay the most. It's new for them, new for AI, new for combat, and something that I still don't know how it'll work out even thought I watched a lot of videos.
Thanks fawe4 and Ixi for that info and link. Sounds amazing.
I didn't really get into EU4, (CKII was still my only obsession though...)
Going to give this a proper try. Want to get back into gaming, and paradox are probably the ones to do it. Ixi, Ill follow your lead, the trailer and Fawe4's info was enough for me to bite, wont spoils myself anymore.
Im not usually a big fan of 4X games but this one looks amazing! Can't wait to try it out!
Big fan of the genre in general but the likes of galciv I just couldn't get into - Stellaris looks brilliant though, might end up sinking 100s of hours into it.
And even then it'd only be a fraction of how much I've played Civ.
For context, the Unbidden are a late-game disaster thing, where an empire abuses some form of esoteric FTL tech, rips a hole in reality, and extra-dimensional energy beings flood into the galaxy, killing everything.
Of course they are bland. They are randomly put together, and the name-gen only has so much to chose from, since it's supposedly taking everything from name-lists.
Just wait until the modders start to tinker with it, add ridiculous new possibilities, and throwing it into the name-gen blender.

Check your sarcasm detector, it appears to be malfunctioning.
What their generator came up is better than most names for original aliens in other games.
To be honest, that 'generic' threw me off. Plus in the LPs I watched, every player used very bland empire names (X Republic, Y Empire, Z Collective, etc). Since I didn't pay attention to the AI ones, I kinda rolled with it.
man....it´s looks crazy on my eyes but still pretty cool.
never kind of played 4x games. just tried a bit.
have to tried this one on isodemo then maybe buying this game
