You're definitely not.

DoW 2 got boring very quickly just using the same handful of units over and over and over again. If it was like a WH40K Men At War, I wouldn't mind them keeping it exactly like DoW 2, but it was really simplistic.

Yeah, the only remotely positive thing about DoW III so far is the return of base building (and capture points) after the abysmal 2nd part of the series.

A shame everything else about "III" seems to suck so bad that I won't even touch this game. Defeinitely not until Chaos and Necrons are included.

I do not enjoy base building in my RTS games in 2016 unless the game is an economic game like the Anno series. I prefer the Ground Control / World in Conflict style of RTS, and I personally enjoyed DoW2 more then DoW1 although both were great games.

Anyways, trailer made me cream myself. Nice to see Relic doing a real game again.

Personally, I found the campaign bland and boring, with very little tactics involved and the same mission structure repeated ad nauseam. I enjoyed the RPG elements, unit upgrades and such. The expansion (not sure I played both of them) was better though, with more varied mission structures IIRC.

I think Chaos Rising is one of the best strategy campaigns of the last decade. And the RTT made the multiplayer so awesome, I loved it.

Welcoming the base building. The maps in Dow 2 were overall too small. Lots of railroading on them too. I guess the city map was adequate.

Hoping for alot of base building, with walls and turrets, bigger more open maps in the mix and large engagements. But the screenies makes it look like Dow 2.5, so I'll wait for more info.

Yesterday a SEGA subscriber mail popped in my spam tray:

At long last, the sun rises on a new age of Battle!

Dawn of War III immerses you in the escalating brutality of galactic warfare, where you will lead elite hero units and colossal armies to victory, or oblivion. Powerful super-walkers will tower over the front lines as screen-shaking assaults blister the battlefield in an all-out, over-the-top spectacle worthy of the iconic Games Workshop® Warhammer 40,000 universe - this is the Dawn of War you've been waiting for - For the Emperor!

Not sure if

Using that argument you might say that Battlefield 3 and 4 were "abysmal".
Short and easy campaign modes with very little freedom and vehicle warfare. Maaan, these game suck so bad...
Oh, and who cares about multiplayer, right?

EDIT: Oooh! And Quake 3! THAT one had really sucky "story mode".

I merely explained what I didn't like about the game, couldn't tell you why that other guy thought it was "abysmal".

Battlefield 3 and 4 probably suck tho, I wouldn't know I don't touch that trash.

That escalated quickly.

What I meant by DoW II being "abysmal" is that they completely neutered the game during the beta test, nerfing MP battles (especially flanking and suppression, the two major elements) due to whiners on relic's forums complaining that the game was too hard.

And the SP campaign was utter crap. As someone else said here before: the same units throughout the campaign, small maps and basically fucked-up gameplay. And no base building. To each their own, but the small-scale "tactical" (which it wasn't, at all...) fucking about didn't impress me the slightest.

There you have it.

Hoping they retain some of the customization for heroes at the very least; heroes are the spice of every army. That and actually being able to name and paint units.

Just saw this possible hint that Necrons are in the game:

Quote:

Been doing some research.

That opening quote from Inquisitor Czevak is from the Necron codex.

Randomly chosen, or is it a hint?

Then came Chaos Rising, which changed everything in terms of singleplayer.

Looks a lot worse. Very Happy Even the tabletop looks colorful as hell, but look at that footage, the game tries to imitate Starcraft 2?!

It seems like a strange shader effect, almost watercolour style. It's definitely *more* colourful than DoW1/2, but it's not really all that different in tone/style. At least, from what I've seen Smile

Dunno. It's more colorful, true, but I don't think it looks bad in motion. I'm actually pretty happy with the gameplay, to be honest. Carnage looks great, big units are... well... huge and look fun to control. And most importantly... It's hard to explain, but it does look like a DoW game, you know?

Also, seems Gabriel is back too Smile

Meh, at least graphic wise it barely looks better than DoW2. Sad

Well, unless they change the art style completely, this is gonna remain looking like a SC2 mod.

Then came Retribution which took a couple of steps backward with the singleplayer. Sad

But I guess it was kinda hard to do a solid campaign for all factions and it was clearly just for MP but man. Chaos Rising was amazing.

It's not the art style that i dislike, it's the rather bad graphics quality.

// Nvm. Actually their new cartoony art style is one of the reasons i dislike the new graphic style: The environments just look so bland and empty.
