The combo heavy Dark Sword and Dragonslayer Greatshield (both fully upgraded) is so b̶a̶d̶a̶s̶s op in the game that I could face all the late bosses (including the Nameless King and Cindermen) without even using the rolling button.
I just stood there, come at me bro_mode, blocking everything with ease, and throwing deadly strikes in the most casual way. Almost felt like I was cheating xD

Sounds boring. I tried the Dark Sword when I got it (I do that with every weapon to see the moveset every time) and went "that's alright" and never touched it again because at the time I was alternating between the Flamberge and Vordt's Coolclub which are both way more fun. After that I got the Farron Greatsword and lamented the loss of Artorias's sword, while forgetting that any other weapon exists because that one is just the coolest.
Oh, and I beat Nameless King with Onikiri and Ubadachi because I've waited since forever to have something like that in a game with decent combat.
For me, Twin Princes' Greatsword is the most awesome 2hander in the game, as for 1handers Butcher Knife and Chaos Blade. All three are viable options for PvP and work great in PvE.
Damn...that means the game is still filled to the brim with scrubs. I didn't get killed by any DarkSword or Katana users in ages due to HornetRing parries.
I thought everyone is parrying them by now but I guess not. Jesus people... adapt a bit faster please

same here, love the dragonslayer greatshield, i almost felt bad for the nameless king prancing around and putting so much effort in it while i just stood there with the shield up, no fucks given mode, and poked him in the anus with my dark sword every now and then.

What's cooler is if you use a spear instead. As you can then stab away (although a bit slower) while still blocking.
That was especially nice in PvP.

DS combat never was particularly deep or involved, but it's never been that obvious how mindless it really is until DS3.
wow, this guy probably spent some good amount of time learning the attack patterns of this boss and how to evade them without having to roll etc and thus creating a challenge for himself (SL1!) and you act as if this game is easily beatable by just mashing R1 and that's it Yeah, you try that yourself to beat Pointiff Sulyvahn just by "R1 spam" and please record it...
DS3's combat is deliberately different to Dark Souls 1 & 2 and apparently a tiny bit closer to Bloodborne, where it rewards the player for playing more aggressively. A lot of even low level enemies have high damage attacks and most enemies have to be hit twice or more to drain all their stamina so that if there are 2 or more enemies close to each other, you have to think about which one to attack first in regards to the environment and the other enemies possible attack pattern etc.
Dark Souls doesn't have a very complex fighting system, but it's very asses able for the player so that attacking, dodging and oversight of the environment are properly honored. This is not your typical R1 spam game like f.e. Gothic 3
Its not that different, it never was. Soulsborne combat is as simple/complicated as you wanna it to be. You can hide behind the shield forever or learn patterns and dodge/counter/parry/use magic buffs or tons of additional items.
