Good game, but bloodborne stomps it into the ground IMO. I loved the first few levels of Dark souls 3 though. Running through ramparts on a castle with dragon and knights gave me strong Demon Souls vibes.
Bosses were mostly forgettable (i loved dragonslayer armor boss fight even though it was piss easy, as well as Yhorm once i figured out the stupid sword). Nothing as memorable as Ludwig the Accursed which is IMO the best boss fight of all time.
Anyone else think the NPC questlines were ridiculous, i think i botched all of them. I will be forced to use the wiki in NG+ if i choose to play it again. Solid 7.5/10 for me. Now if i could get bloodborne on pc with upgraded visuals (60 fps at least and no chromatic abominati.. i mean aberration).
The same feels. I have strange feeling that bloodborne even looked better, castles were less boring, everything were darker, more hardcore, chalice dungeons (in terms of design and looks) were great, and catacombs in DS3 were simply meh. Guess I preffer that gothic lovecraftian horror with some cosmisc/blood/beast influences than another fantasy journey to another big castle to fight another prince(s) after which theres yet another last boss... More I think about it there more "meh" feels I get about DS3.
Also yes, questlines were shit in this game, everything went nuts in my playthrough and after reading some wiki it looks even more messier, gigantic cryptic trigger fest. Wont bother with them in NG+, guess I wont even try NG+, gonna replay it for the DLC fest with some other build, maybe they will become usefull in PvE with some patches along the way. Hope DLC for DS3 will be as good as those for DS2 which were fucking great, shulva was amazing and had strong zelda feeling.
What I regret is the fact that I sold ps4 after beating bloodborne (and some problems with digital games ffs sony). Guess I`ll buy it again when BB2 is announced just to replay BB with some dlc.
All that said I still put solid 65+ h in this, enjoyed most of that, I just enjoyed BB more.
Well, what kept me from really loving this game was the fact that every enemy is basically at bloodborne speed (or faster), have unlimited stamina, and you have no poise even with fatty armor and poise increasing items. you can't shoehorn in bloodborne combat for JUST the enemies (for the most part, i did appreciate the really fast rolling). not sure if the poise is intended or bug. plus bigger weapons just suck in a combat style like that, why should i use a slower, stronger weapon when i could just stunlock enemies with my faster straight sword on every 2nd hit?
furthermore, for me, there just weren't enough memorable levels after the first few 10 hours or so.
Honestly in terms of the the action and RPG mechanics, DS3 is way below DS2 and BB. Its just feels unpolished. Weapon Arts is a good idea, but then it felt like they forgot about tweaking everything else.
DS2 put too much effort into gameplay mechanics, and not enough in bosses and explorations.
BB didn't have enough weapons and Chalice Dungeons needed more time in production.
DS1 was incomplete and not streamlined at all.
DS3 really could have been the best overall game if FROM put a few more months into polishing it. Maybe release it after E3 or something. Hopefully we'll see another re-release version like what they did with DS2.
Just feels like From never really finishes games completely. In DS3 I feel like the covenants lack a lot and there is barely any replayability. It doesn't really challenge at all either after you get used to most enemies flailing around. Don't think they ever finish a game completely anyway, even in DeS you had an entire area not being in the game.
the area and content they scrapped from des were later used for bloodborne, atleast as concepts.
and as for bb not having enough weapons, i dont feel that way, every weapon had 2 modes and handled uniquely with its own moveset and strengths, bloodborne just focused on really polished design without adding too much fluff.

Every time Bloodborne gets mentioned I lose a bag of souls and some humanity *shakes fist*
It's perhaps the only current console exclusive that truly appeals to me, though after spending hundreds of hours on the Souls games on PC, at steady 60fps and with finely tuned mouse controls, I don't think I'd be able to fully enjoy it. Anyway, it's time to use my neuralyzer and forget about its existence (again!)*
*it totally didn't work with RDR, still have Vietnam-like flashbacks :'(
with the way sony is becoming more open towards pc, releasing a remote play app for it and soon maybe even playstation now, i think there is a small possibility they may start porting their console exclusives 2-3 years after the initial release.
wishful thinking i know, but seeing how currently pc gaming is on the rise while console gaming is stagnating, its not unthinkable.

The "lack of weapons" is more of lacking in options than lacking in differences. Yes each weapon is wonderful to use, and vastly superior to other Souls games. The problem is in each playthrough, you are limited to a very small selection at any time because of upgrades, Blood Gems, and most importantly the stats to use it. Had BB have the Infusion from DS3, then this problem would have be a lot less, problematic.
Ie. if I play Dex, I'll be using the Threaded Cane for a very long time before seeing another Dex weapon. I would have to prematurely end quest-lines to get a new one, or beeline into a secret area just to find another.

I think that is kind of imaginary problem tbh, souls have tons of weapons, I used maybe 3 in my playthrough in ds3 and that was kind of forced - I just got bored with the one I used. Same thing can be said about BB despite it having smaller number of weapons. DLC seem to provide lot of new stuff, and there are always guns.
85% of weapons in DS1-2-3 are just insta skip, its just fake feeling that you have larger choice, tho I dont say that it itsnt nice to have chocice, but when you look at it from gameplay/mathematical perspective its almost the same.

YOU don't switch weapons, I do. Depending on the enemies I use different ones that serves different purposes. Threaded Cane for light poise enemies, Chikage for max dps against high health enemies. Farron Greatsword for shielded enemies, Uchi for when I need speed.
The game gives you weapons, its up to you to choose whether you use it or not. If the game don't give you that option, you don't get to choose, that's the problem.
Lighting and atmosphere, in comparison to the real, in-game look it just feels/looks completely different, real game looks just flat. Location on the last shot for example in game looks just laughable in comparison to that early footage. Also that promo with swords in a little pool of water was completely removed.
