Quote:
Back in October, Red Barrels stated that it’s working on the sequel to Outlast. And today, the team has officially revealed its new horror title via its debut trailer. Outlast 2 will be a twisted new journey into the depths of the human mind and its dark secrets.

“No conflict is ever black and white. But once the dust has settled, the victors get to decide who was right and who was wrong. Who is good and who is evil. Human nature pushes us to extremes of violence and depravity, which we then justify by divine inspiration and a promise of paradise to come. Horror rises from desperation and blind faith. OUTLAST 2 will test your faith, pushing players to a place where going mad is the only sane thing to do.”

Outlast 2 is coming in 2016 on PC, Mac and current-gen consoles.

Enjoy!

With Halloween around the corner I think it's time for another playthrough of Outlast and its follow-up.

"I think Call of Duty resonates because it's believable and relatable," Sledgehammer Games cofounder Michael Condrey says.

Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

Yes! Laughing

What a character Very Happy

This is a great news indeed, both the main game and expansion were excellent. I'm a sucker for these hide 'n seek simulators with soiled pants involved xD

Hope the second part is more like Condemned. Amnesia hide and seek gameplay has gotten old now.

1 and 2 are still amazing.

I understand the complaints (sort of) Razz, but from how I see it, including weapons would nullify what makes this sub-genre so captivating to begin with; the sense of tension and powerlessness is unrivaled when you can't rely on the safety pew-pew, like in Frictional's games or Alien (until you get the flamethrower, that is).

Anyway, a Condemned-like melee-heavy approach like Yuri mentioned would actually make sense here in Outlast (since you have to deal with humanoids), unfortunately though that would also require work in the animations/balancing/AI departments and devs most of the times just prefer to omit these in favor of scripted scenes. Okay

There were weapons in penumbra.
I am aaying about means to fight or push back. Not being a supet hero.

It feels super unrealistic not being able to do anything.
And puzzle games? Really bob? Lol You can defend in portal

Weapons? You mean the scarce dynamite you could find? A single dog would require 4 packs of these and the blast zone was so small you HAVE to resort to F5/F9 in order to kill it and not was more than 4. You call that weapon?

I usually do too, because nowadays it's often an excuse to not develop a decent combat system.

However there are exceptions. And the first outlast is one of the best of these exceptions imho.

You guys mad ? This ain't one of those Cady games. It's a survival horror which means, no Javelin missiles, M16, RPG's etc. Razz

Hmm well there actually 2 schools of Survival horror the Clock Tower like games which are non combat and rely mostly on hiding and stealth and the Alone in the Dark/Resident Evil like games which have combat but de-emphasize it.
Outlast is a game more in the vein of Clock Tower.

I remember there was at least a hammer. It's a weapon

I think they patched it later but the first Penumbra game allowed you to swing any held object and deal damage with it meaning you could kill any encountered enemy, later games made it so this dealt no damage at all.

It was sort of hilarious in the first game too. Very Happy Standing on top of some box beating up mutant dogs or whatever they were.

I remember it was what it was. You had this hammer and could fight with it. It was difficult but seamed reasonable.
