I see locking VR displays akin to locking monitors to specific videocards. It would be ridiculous.

Well thats what they are trying to do so far it seems. I can't see it lasting. Too small a market at the moment to try fragmenting like that.
Fairly sure Oculus wont try to patch up that home issue as the contents been bought so they'll just let it be.

Don't you have a Vive on pre order as well?

It would be nice for a non bias opinion on the two.

Ahh fair enough.

It's annoying that i placed my Rift order 1 hour after orders went live and i won't get it until sometime June (maybeTM)

I ordered my Vive on the 4th of April and i will receive it the same month!

After playing a very simple game called "Crystal Rift" I really really hope others take inspiration from it and make similar games.
Its kind of a cheap/simplified version of Dungeon Master - but the concept makes me really wanna see more similar games.

There are several types of games I'd absolutely go batshit insane over for the Rift/Vive.. and FPRPGs like Dungeon Master/Might & Magic and even Dark Messiah? Yeah.. those would be glorious! Hell, you could even port Knightmare and make it a party game that utilises room-scale VR Very Happy

Of course full price.
You won't find Vive/Rift cheaper. If you didn't preorder it, you will have to pay even more money now, if you decide to buy from like Ebay.

Rift 1.3.2 Update - Release Notes

Added support for installing Oculus and VR applications to a different drive. Note that installing to a different drive first requires uninstalling Oculus. Please see the following support article for details: https://support.oculus.com/help/oculus/1715420212071737/

Fixed issue where more than one payment method could be saved

Bug fixes and stability improvements to the installer, runtime, desktop app, and Home

Fixed being unable to launch software in Desktop mode without a Rift connected

Also: new free content - "Introduction to Virtual Reality".

Edit: Im probably easy to impress...but I still end up sitting smiling when I watch stuff in VR. Its probably not that impressive, but its something ive always wanted to experience. Love it!

Edit2: Btw, that "Showdown" demo...i think ive watched it 20 times already..bloody awsome Very Happy

The quality in cinema app - well, there are 3 different ones. Its ok, but concidering most people here are quality freaks im not sure if anyone wanna sit through a full movie with it. I did however watch some telly series and it was excellent.
Ive played CoH2 and Might and Magic X so far using Virtual Desktop. Its cool as hell. Love the fact that you can "turn off" everything around you and concentrate on the game once you put on Rift.

However, that said - I think the best way to experience VR will without a doubt be using apps/games all made for VR more.
I have been using Virtual Desktop for 20h + though. (Good thing you can start it without the need for steam too).

Thanks for the quick response!!

In a way I'm glad I didn't pre-order yet and understand the people who did like you.

My main concern was the quality of movies/series and normal non-vr games played on a virtual big ass screen with all the bells & whistles turned on.

I guess we can't expect as of yet something like that quality wise until better versions of apps or the actual hardware.

I'm still gonna wait it out and invest in a new Pascal card Ti version supposedly coming out as early as June.

I might get myself into VR in a year or so or until the technology gets to what I expect from it's many features.

Thanks again!! Smile

Peace!!

Oculus reacts to virtual reality privacy questions
Quote:
Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) wrote an open letter to Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe earlier this month asking for details about user data collected by the new VR system, which is worn on users' heads and can detect movement, location and sound.

Franken is asking for more information about how the Facebook-owned company is handling data collected from users. He noted in his April 7 letter to Oculus that "the collection, storage and sharing of personal information may enhance consumers' virtual reality experience, but we must ensure that Americans' very sensitive information is protected."

Franken asked Oculus to respond by May 13. Rubin declined to specify when Oculus would address the questions.

"We're going to answer all of that in due time," said Rubin, a video game industry veteran who joined Oculus in 2014. "We're absolutely confident that people are going to say, 'Oh. Yeah. Right.'"

Don't believe so, it was a big deal it was a 'Rift' exclusive. And all the pcars videos Ive seen are all people doing it in the Rift.
Assuming the devs dont have time/energy to make it work on 2 different VR platforms with different SDKs.

And there you have the biggest problem with the VR platform ... . If they don't have time for two, what about four? Five? Six? FIFTEEN different VR devices? You can't segment a tiny market and expect it to survive.

Completely agreed. Right now we have Rift, Vive, Gear and Morpheus. And that's YEAR ONE. What about next year? The year after? We're going to have another half dozen companies with their own VR technology.. and all of it is going to be utterly worthless without a unified API. Greed and spitefulness will kill VR before it's even had a chance to start, and it begins with Oculus/Facebook and their anti-consumer bullshit right from the off.
