The Remote Play application *requires* a PS4 controller and it has to be wired/USB connected to the PC. Right? So that means the PS4 controller works on PC via Sony's software.... yes...? If so, how is that exploitable to get "native" DS4 functionality? I love my DS4, best pad by far, but having to use InputMapper is a goddamn pain in the arse due to Windows 10 changes.

It seems like maybe the controller only works *inside* the remote play app.. which is a shame, especially since Sony knows people have crying out for Windows drivers for ages now. There are *some* games that utilise the DS4 natively, I just wish we could get a system-wide driver that didn't rely on InputMapper. I love IM but it conflicts *hard* with Windows 10 and the required Exclusive Mode.

>Turn on PC with controller connected via USB/BT? Windows reads it as "Game Controller" and InputMapper fails to set Exclusive Mode correctly, ending up with the controller appearing as Xinput Controller #2, which the vast (99%+++) majority of games don't work with. Well, unless you like being Player 2 >_>
>Connect controller while Steam is running? InputMapper fails to set Exclusive Mode.. see above.
>Controller disconnects during play? You have to close Steam and anything else that uses a controller or else... see above.
>Game has built-in native support, including button icons, for DualShock4? You need Exclusive Mode.. or... see above.

I have to disconnect the controller every single time I turn the machine off, then reconnect when Windows has logged in, and *then* launch Steam. In that order. Windows 10 and its Exclusive Mode bullshit is utterly fucking retarded.. like a lot of Win10 decisions, to be honest.

I remember them "talking" about it, but they haven't released anything as of yet. There are a handful of games that have their own builtin support for the DS4.. but they're few and far between, and conflict with InputMapper's xinput emulation unless - again - Exclusive Mode is enabled.

Why don't they? Wouldn't sales of the DS4 help them? And more players would use their stuff and just build a commond ground between pc and PS4 gamers... wouldn't that be good as well?

And most likely they have drivers already, no?

You misunderstand, I'm completely fine with it being detected as 360 controller - but to DO so you need to use external programs, in my case InputMapper, as Windows has *zero* usage of the controller without said programs. If I connect the controller without running IM; it doesn't work. At all. Shows up in devices as "Game Controller" but doesn't function... no dpad, no analogue sticks, no buttons, no triggers. You cannot use the controller for any Windows function, be it games or otherwise, unless you come across a random game that has its own builtin functionality.

Smile

That should explain better Smile Funnily enough, the page states that the controller operates natively as a dinput one.. but that's not my experience :\

oehm im pretty sure everything above win8 needs no extra drivers etc to get the ds4 recognized and working (partially) with wired connection (via bt it needs different stuff though).

just tested it:

thats my ds4 connected via usb and i pressed some buttons while taking the pic

Yeah, my DS4 also worked out of the gate after connecting it. All buttons work.

To get it detected as a 360 controller I need to use inputmapper though.

Hmmm, I could have sworn that even dinput wouldn't work when I tried it. Regardless, InputMapper is still needed due to Exclusive Mode so I don't get doubled inputs and "xinput controller #2" Sad
