Is Quantum Break, with its meld of compelling gameplay, strong storyline and high-quality TV series, really the future of gaming? Yes, but maybe it'll be Quantum Break 2 (if there is one) that truly nails it 100%. If they dial back the gorgonzola, the product placement and adjust that cover mechanic, this could have been a perfect game.
But, for now, you've got the best-looking game on Xbox One, jam-packed full of familiar faces and top-notch acting, complemented by strong gameplay mechanics and a popcorn-crunching TV series.

It’s too bad the experience is disrupted by the crashes, and I wish Remedy would learn how to deal with repetitious content. That was a big complaint with Alan Wake, and it has come around again. But it’s not as bad in this game. It didn’t annoy me that much, but I think it will drive some people to just go and watch the game on YouTube playthroughs, rather than deal with playing it themselves.
But the story is quite elaborate, the human character animations are outstanding, the performances are great, and there are some real moving moments in the game. Greg Louden of Remedy told me, “Most games you play through once and forget. Quantum Break and Alan Wake and Max Payne are games you remember.

Quantum Break is another example of Remedy Entertainment sticking to what they know, and doing it better than anyone else. An engrossing adventure with a captivating story. experimentation with new mediums for telling stories in games and refined third-person gameplay to match. Quantum Break isn’t optional, it’s essential.

POSITIVES
An amazing audio/visual spectacle
Fresh and fast-paced shooting mechanics
Excellent story with a good cast of actors
Live-action show feels well-produced and crucial to the narrative
NEGATIVES
Cover system can sometimes fail you
Frequent story-building but wordy collectibles pause the action for extended periods of time

Remedy swung for the fences and hit a homerun with Quantum Break. With an engrossing story, an amazing cast, and the most beautiful visuals on the Xbox One we’ve ever seen, Quantum Break is a masterpiece.
The Jimquisition - 8.5/10
Quantum Break is not the most revolutionary of games, and its box of time toys cover what is, at heart, a fairly standardized shooter. However, it carries itself with style and speed to create something genuinely fascinating to play, flavored by a story that, while failing to pay off in the final stretch, is more detailed and engrossing than most in its league.
Destructoid - 8.5/10
It's a disappointing realization, but not a damning one. Far from it, actually. Remedy's keen understanding of how to make an action title shines through, and it's every bit a game that has been lovingly crafted for years. Quantum Break won't at all times feel like a game, as the player spends a fair chunk of time relegated to spectator. But, no matter which side Quantum Break is showing, it's always going to be a spectacular one.
GameInformer 8.5
Quantum Break isn’t a perfect game; it’s a bold experiment in how two mediums can tell a larger story, and at times it pays off. It would be foolish for every game to attempt to emulate this form of storytelling, but Quantum Break as a gaming oddity deserves attention. I wish the events of the show were more significant to the main story, but Quantum Break more than makes up for that with some of the best storytelling and gameplay Remedy has ever produced.

Despite how pedestrian some aspects of the game may be, I concluded Quantum Break feeling like something new had happened. Something special had happened that more than compensated for some of the flatness of the story and the mostly rote gunplay. A game simply never worked like this before, nor has a TV show. Because of that, what might have otherwise been ordinary feels extraordinary.
I cant stop watching this gif. Its eerily realistic and at the same time unrealistically freaky lol. Quite looking forward to it judging by the reviews.

Hope to get at least 1 hour to play before work today
Game is not bad at all so far! Unfortunately I only got to play for 30 minutes. The story is a bit of a headfuck but then most time related stories are. Haven't experienced any of the TV show but got into a few gunfights. Got some cool time powers. I can imagine the huge shootouts to be pretty awesome later in the game but I've only had a couple of short skirmishes. Visually the game is very nice with exceptional detail to the main character which is why it's pretty annoying that the lesser important characters are so much less detailed. Also I wish the cover system was better than it is and wasn't automatic when nearing cover. Plus no option to move from cover to cover? I mean there is a bit of a pathetic jump but no manual crouch or diving lol. So far I like it though. Will comment more later.
Many reviewers said that this game is not a cover shooter and its not supposed to be played like that...with time shifting and other powers you are on the constant move and the combat is really fast and more engaging. And it needs a bit of training to learn to combine all powers and use them properly during combat, so Ive heard...
TBH I didn't read any of the reviews in detail but I will bear that in mind. I'm guessing the character isn't meant to be military trained and realistically might not be able to use cover like the player expects them to in most games
So how did the "get a free Windows 10 key" thing work? Is it an actual redeemable serial or is it something you tie to the same MS/Xbox account on both XBONE and PC?
Hmm, probably because it's not "live" yet? I'm curious about the QB Win10 stuff, perhaps if it's separate and not tied to Xbox account, people will be selling them on eBay

Played some more, unlocked some cool new time powers. The explosions and destruction make for some great firefights and stuff flies all over the place! The 720p is quite noticeable especially having watched my first episode of the integrated TV show, which is super high quality. These episodes are quite lengthy and really break up the gameplay. Its not a bad thing really but I wouldnt want to watch them repeatedly and I assume they can be skipped. Also you can unlock extra scenes to the TV show and the decisions you make affect the outcome so I can see this will be worth playing through more than once. So far so good
The pre-order bonus has changed due to the PEGI ratings for the games. Quantum Break is PEGI16 but American Nightmare is PEGI18, so instead you'll supposedly get a copy of Kameo Elements of Power.

OMG I'm so fucked are off about that. A free copy of Kameo because I might not be over 18?!? A big part of the reason I preordered Quantum Break was for Alan Wake!
I'm confused. As far as I knew I was getting Alan Wake and 2 DLC The Writer and The Signal. This issue affects American Nightmare? What is that exactly? I have a code for Alan Wake already. Does this mean this same code will get me Kameo instead or preorders of Quantum Break that haven't been shipped or sold yet having the included preorder bonus code changed to Kameo?
Apparently you're supposed to get both, you get the original AW and you also get American Nightmare, it's only American Nightmare that's the "problematic" () one due to the difference in PEGI ratings. Supposedly you should still get the first AW title.

Only got one code for Alan Wake. Was there meant to be a code for American Nightmare as well?
It seems *some* places are offering American Nightmare codes to go along with Alan Wake. I guess yours isn't one of them? In that case, you should get Alan Wake as normal -- though I guess only when the game actually goes live for the world
I guess I was assuming I wouldn't get Alan Wake at all but it seems like I'm bothered over something for nothing lol. I guess I can always buy the digital version of American Nightmare. Cheers for clearing that up!
The more I play this the better it gets. I was a bit put off by the 720p resolution but perhaps that was intentional to keep the framerate from dropping with all the crazy visuals and physics going off. The realtime lighting and time changing environmental effects are really quite impressive and I wish melee combat was part of the gameplay but so far it's all about the shooting.
