Can't you do normal rolls in that armor, I'm pretty sure it was possible despite the high equipment load value but it required ring support and good stats.
(And you can't really do it all too often as the stamina drain is pretty high due to the weight of said armor.)
Come to think of it I guess it wouldn't work if you are using the actual Havel shield as well, or the uhh "weapon" he uses.
EDIT:
This be a DS3 spoiler.

Well what do you know he's actually in Dark Souls 3, probably means his other stuff is too.
(Then again no surprise really as most if not all the popular armors from DS1 made it into DS2 as did Havel himself but in a different form.)

^ direct quote
Quote: | . Furthermore, battle can be very black-or-white: parried? Congratulations! The enemy is dead. Messed up the parry? Bye-bye, big chunk of health. Realistic? Sure, but it leaves little room for experimentation, especially when it comes to boss fights. The main problem, however, lies in how it's sometimes impossible to understand why this or that didn't happen: "I rolled to avoid the beast, it touched me, I'm okay. I avoided its mace, it didn't seem to touch me, but I got hurt. Huh?!."
For all its flaws, Lords of the Fallen got this right - not because it was way easier, but because it felt… immediate. The sword on the screen found its target? Then the other guy will bleed - end of story. On the other hand, the trial-and-error required in Dark Souls III is the equivalent of jumping off a cliff a hundred times, before learning how to land without dying |

Well i would understand complain like this in case of DS2 ,where if you had low adaptability, i was mess, but here in DS3 so far(ps4 review version) never noticed anything like that let alone something that was impossible to understand why that happened - always my fault of not being fast enough in reaction of enemy attack

Read again pax. That criticism is apparently valid for DS 2, but the reviewer is talking about Dark Souls 3, where people report that they don't see bullshit like it was in DS2.
