No. Currently, the Oculus software and VR applications must be stored in C:\Program Files (x86)\Oculus.
We plan to enable installing downloaded VR applications to another location in a future release. |

A bright future awaits the Rift, if even such a simple feature is not implemented yet. |
That's a joke, right? Tell me that's a joke.

bxrdj wrote: | Also, here is a workaround:
You can create a special kind of folder "shortcut" on your C drive that points to a folder on your X drive (for example) and Windows will treat it exactly like a regular folder. These are called JUNCTIONS.
You use the Windows command prompt to create a junction.
In this example, we'll assume we are moving the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Oculus" to instead be stored at "X:\My Storage\Oculus".
Move your existing folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Oculus" to the location you actually want it stored at "X:\My Storage\Oculus".
Click Start > Run then type cmd into the box and hit enter to open the Windows command prompt.
Type the following line into the prompt, ADJUSTING THE FOLDER LOCATIONS AS NEEDED:
mklink /J "C:\Program Files (x86)\Oculus" "X:\My Storage\Oculus"
That's it! From now on when ever anything tries to access a file inside of "C:\Program Files (x86)\Oculus", Windows will automatically grab the file from "X:\My Storage\Oculus" instead. This means your HDD space on your C drive is safe! Woo hoo! |
These are called symlinks, and they have been used on Linux, BSD and other systems for thousands of years. Microsoft renamed them to "junctions", because hey, it's something new, but for most users it's still impenetrable rocket science.

Who cares. Give us shipping updates for real preorders. We already know Kickstarter backers are getting it first.

Im thinking the same thing as KC... dear lord
Looks pretty cool in the youtube video though. Maybe in some years I will actually replace my TV with that. Next display will be a 4K TV for a much more narrow FOV though, so as I said before, VR need higher resolution displays.

You havent learned to type without looking at the keyboard yet?
You can easily find j and f no matter what since there's always a little height on top of the key so you will find them.. doesnt help if you always need to look while typing, but usually only people who doesnt use computers more than maybe once a month are that badly oriented..

Not that many people can reliably touchtype - I know I can type quite well, but I still glance down at the keyboard occasionally to orient myself.
I suppose you could use the onscreen keyboard...
