hey guys

im looking forward to buy a new motherboard, cpu, some ram and a new case.
my budget is around 600 euros.
but i don't know what to buy... i want it as cheap as possible with the maximum of power of course. Laughing

for example i still got an i5 750 from 2010 and never had problems with it until now. friends with i7's already upgraded ... so i think im safe if i buy a i5 again because it's enough for me and if not > overclock, just like now.

whats up with the cores? aren't there 6 or 8 core cpus already which are not so expensive?
or is there some kind of server sockel which is cheap and even better then the "normal" sockels?

for now i would buy this:

Case:
Fractal Design Define R4 Black Pearl (80 Euros)

Mainboard:
ASUS Z170-A (1151) (150 Euros)

CPU:
Intel Core i5-6600K (260 Euros)

Ram:
G.Skill DIMM 16GB DDR4-3200 Quad-Kit (95 Euros)
Quad-Kit because a friend already tried 2*8gb rams from different producers and vendors but XMP profile always failed.
otherwise i would choose 2*8gb so i can upgrade to 32gb sometime in the feature.
but it's ok like this too. it will last a while. Smile

please recommend me anything or tell me what i have chosen wrong Smile
i really don't want to go over 600 euros...

Buy E3-1231V3 280€, 1050 Mobo, DDR3 Ram, rest is fine.

can you tell me whats the difference? just the same power for less money or what is the advantage?
really ddr3? please think about that i want to use this pc 5-8 years... i know you will probably laugh about this but im not used to high end rigs which get upgrded every 3 months or so.
but then again maybe ddr4 ist really that much better then 3?

again im sorry for being so dumb. that is why i ask here

/edit oh no now also a laughing gif. wait till coleur sees this double post madness. insta ban

either got full money spending -> skylake i7k or try to get a bit more out of your old cpu

ofc the skylake i5 is faster, but if the old nehalem i5 is oced much its not as much as you think. its just not worth spending so much money without a real effect.

edit: pax says 'old" xeon cause 1. ddr4 isnt really faster than ddr3 and the xeon has hyperthreading and with bios mod boost on all cores with 3,8ghz. the 6600k boosts @ stock with 3,9ghz. the xeon cant be overclocked, but in the future it "might" be more useful to have 3,8ghz @ 8 cores instead of ~4,5ghz @ 4 cores. have mine (xeon 1230v3, 0,1ghz less than the 31v3) since dunno, more than two years afaik and no absolutely no reason to upgrade

my old cpu is already at the maximum when it comes to air cooling and overclocking.
and it bottlenecks everything now. it was fine until last year but its getting worse and worse.
the i5 lasted me over 6 years now so why shouldn't a new i5? just asking... like i said newb here

Going for i5 skylake and ddr4 is not gonna get you security over 5-8 years,

Especially not compared to xeon e5-1231v3 performance. The xeon will crush the i5 skylake, with or without ddr4.

thank you!!! i will look into it

i think it was because of the new chipset. he tried multiple boards and multiple ram producers.
still as soon as he loaded XMP profile it failed. first when he tried 4*4gb kits it worked fine.
asus lists all compatible ram on the homepage and even there you can only see 4gb rams...

well seems like im not going on this sockel then anyway so this will not happen to me Very Happy

so xmp isnt failurefree at all, wheres the problem setting up the values manually? lazy young generation... should try to get an old 386 or 486 system running with only a handful of jumpers and the manual in your hand Razz

I have this plus a gtx 970, it was a good choice and I'm happy I bought it Smile there aren't enough usb ports on that board but I already had a usb 2.0 hub anyways for peripherals

oh, and this fucking gigantic thing which seems to do what it says

my shitty i3-550 with some video card and ram upgrades (nvidia something then a radeon 6850) lasted my 5-6 years so I'm sure you'll be fine, just stay in your budget and you won't regret it Smile

Why no wait for broadwell-e and get cheap x99 board, the expensive ones only have useless shit anyway probs roughly same cost as a skylake system.

EDIT: prices fromm www.alternate.de

I can vouch for that. The guys helped me (for a buddy of mine) out quite a bit here:
http://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=102796

And a second friend of mine went with the same setup.

They both got:

Intel Xeon E3-1231v3 4x 3.40GHz So.1150 BOX
16GB Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3-1600 DIMM CL9 Dual Kit
4096MB MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming 4G Aktiv PCIe 3.0 x16 (Retail)

And they're extremely happy with it.

i7 and 16gb of ddr4 as fast as posible you can afford, are key for longevity atm, especially if you plan on riding a 4gb gpu for a while as well.
