It has it's moment, playing without the HUD and relying less on "hunter" vision makes some of the encounters pretty tense as does finding the various missions and other events.
(You can use the map if you want, it's pretty terrible with pointing out where things are after all. Razz )

It is pretty simplistic otherwise, gather "ingredients" to upgrade your equipment and also complete missions to unlock new NPC's and upgrade their huts (With more ingredients.) to unlock higher skill tiers and possibly also new equipment.

The animal taming is extremely simple and the commands you can use are also pretty basic but it does provide some alternatives when taking on outposts and the like.

Eventually though you'll carry ten+ clubs and spears and dozens of arrows and other throwing weapons while riding battle-cats of death so yeah it gets pretty easy after you've unlocked some of the skills and upgraded your equipment.

I'd say it's worth a download once it gets cracked although full price I'd probably not recommend unless you're a hardcore fan of the previous games.

EDIT: Oh and getting more NPC's to join you does grow your village so you'll see it go from just a single cave to smaller huts then fortifications and eventually children and lots of villagers, many of whom will provide further missions.
(It's very open ended once you finish the tutorial part, there's some structure to mission progression but you can otherwise go almost wherever you want and do as you please.)

The language that they've made up is neat too at first although as I already play games like JRPG's in Japanese it's nothing new, supposedly they do use pretty poor grammar to mimic a more basic way of speaking though subtitles don't have this although eventually you'll learn to recognize various words as they are repeated so I suppose it's not too difficult to actually learn to hear what they're saying and it's probably based on some existing language at least partially.

Yeah it's a bit of a missed opportunity, press "grenade key" to throw (bait) in front of a animal you can tame and then "E" (A?) it to tame it, afterwards you can give it meat to heal it and if you hold the use key you can also pet it though that does nothing, in battle you can either call your animal back or set it to attack a target.
(A later skill lets you ride some of the larger creatures, taming beasts lets you learn skills to tame higher tier ones.)

EDIT: You do have a drone as well you can call on early on, it's supposed to be a owl but it works like a predator drone. Razz
(Can even dive bomb kill creatures and enemies and drop bee bombs with some skill upgrade plus it's a great scout, kinda overpowered later on but fun though certainly not realistic.)

I think they've done a pretty good job with balancing the different mechanics, they are simple yet satisfying enough. I guess with the taming at least they could have made it a 50/50 chance of fail/succeed, would have made it at least a little more exciting. Not sure how fun you can make this game mechanic in the first place, it's not something i would want to spend too much time with in a shooter.

The characters you meet are pretty fun. Though im almost certain one of the devs has a piss fetish Laughing

Yeah they have a piss fetish, not a shit one. we should be thankful.

Seriously though it has some nice little details here and there, i watched some mammoths and one one of them went out into the water and then sprayed water over himself, looked really great Smile

It gets really crazy at times. E.g a group trying to kill mammoths, other group comes in and fights the other group. now you have 2 groups fighting + mammoths. Group of dogs or wolves joins in as well = madness. Very Happy

Playing the game at 1440p at "High" Settings with a GTX980 TI OC and a 6700k CPU, 16 GB Ram.

Would you call the game optimized when getting 60-80 fps?

One of the missions sent me to pick up some rhino shit so you never know...
(And then in another mission you have to poke a shit pile to track a animal and then there's the matter of the material used in a certain totem... Razz )

Ya put isn't tracking animals via their shit pretty normal so I wouldn't call it a fetish. Very Happy

Almost done with this game...so much stuff to do. I'm at 50% after 20 hours and only a few story missions left.
Tamed all but one beast, liberated all outposts and bonfires, upgraded all huts and crafted all but one weapon.
But those sidequests sure are plentiful...can't even be arsed to do them. Laughing

Updated, seems it was just the game exe so probably some hotfix, readme.txt file wasn't updated with any patch notes so I have no idea.
