People should not be surprised that ubisoft games are reskinned templates of one another, it's a ubilol textbook and they're not even trying to hide it anymore lol.

Game has sold just 67k copies on Steam Aww Yeah
For a so-called AAA game that's pretty low, and yeah I know that is not the total sales as it's uplay game. Still.. pretty shit.

Let's wait until we have total sales then Smile

That said, I don't know how appealing the subject matter is.

Personally, I find the concept of a "stone age" generic open worlder incredibly boring.

It could have been more interesting, if if was a real survival game. Not some shooter with very few variety in equipment.

Thats what I thought it would be, creating your own tools, from stone, wood and bone. I hoped that it would really be a prehistoric exp with danger and survival. Some people where I work were excited about it. (Institute for archaeology). Excitment is gone.

On the other hand the game is created by ubisoft, they had no original game for a long time.

"Tools"? It's an open world "FPS".. They never claimed anything else, so im not sure why you would expect it to be.

You create weapons out of different resources, you get some unique weapons and resources from quests / people. It's as generic as the other FarCry's with some few additions like taming, surival (from cold) and i guess it has more gathering of items (around 50 different resources + rare ones)..

I'd probably rate it 7.5 perhaps even 8/10. It's fun so far, but not fantastic, exactly like i had expected.

They show the villagers using tools, if that's what you mean? FarCry series has never been simulator games though.

I do agree that a Stone Age simulator and survival type of game would have been far more interesting, but it was not what i was expecting since it's FarCry (and UBIsoft..)

The oldest bow that was found was 18000 years old, that's towards the end of the stone age, and only one was found in the world that is that old. So this game shouldn't have any bows in it.

You are over analyzing a triple A console shooter and setting up your expectations too high.

The setting is more or less a Fantasy Stone Age, and again it doesnt try to be a simultor or realistic in any way, it's has passages that are pure fantasy ("visions"). The ad for the game even says "it's not the stone age as you know its, it's farcry's stone age", so it's fantasy, also quite expected to be honest.

I mean you have an owl that can drop bombs, that kind of says it all...

I think people should realise that most of the time people don't want a simulation when they complain on parts being unreal. They usually are fine as long as things don't go too far fetched.

Best example is when you hear people argue about scifi stuff... as long as things aren't too far off from the physical/quantum world it doesn't matter.

That being said, so far I haven't seen too much that goes too far in Primal. Then again haven't followed it much. I'll try it when I can get it for free or a HEAVY discount.

They missed an opportunity to create a decent survival experience... but it's Ooooohbisoft so don't think anyone had real hopes they'd deliver that.

could be amazing. a game with no dialogues, just Neanderthal grunts and gesticulations.

You start of as a child cave dweller with mommy and daddy. game starts with you a kid, the tutorial would be a day with dad teaching you hunting, mom teaching you crafting , etc. then one day, as you are hunting with dad, more advanced apemen with weapons kill your daddy, rape and kill mommy, you run away or get captured, live a harsh life, etc.

conan in the stone age type of story with a good gore and melee system, harsh survival elements, meaningful hunting and crafting.

I'd pay for that. A time when we were part of the food chain can be very interesting, but this is just ubisoft FPS 3.3. fun, but not advancing the genre.

I'd buy that for a dollar (actually i'd pay many dollars, maybe around 50 or even 60 of them!)

I agree. Though tools would not make much sense in a "shooter", they would belong in a RPG or a simulaton type of game.

Haha, thats great stuff! Reminds me of Fallout 3 (I think) when you start off as a baby and your dad teaches you how to shoot the pellet gun.

The critical problem is, such amazing ideas like Witchy's would require a substantial budget to begin with, in order to produce something believable, engrossing and close to the concept (without compromises/cheap production values), and only AAA companies can afford that: the same companies that design their games to please casual audiences in terms of complexity and depth, where kids can take their virtual bow and become Tarzanator.
