We sent out a press release about this today but I wanted you to hear the news directly from me. Our studio, Harebrained Schemes, is working with BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America Inc. to bring Necropolis to consoles.

Our plan is to self-publish the game on Steam and for BANDAI NAMCO to release NECROPOLIS on Xbox One and PS4. That’s a pretty big deal for us! First, getting that kind of recognition from the publisher of Dark Souls is kind of amazing and we hope it will raise the profile of the game. But more important than that, BANDAI NAMCO knows how to bring games to consoles. They know the technical certification requirements, they know how to work with the PSN and Xbox stores, and they know how to market games to reach the right audience. I’ve seen a lot of posts on this forum talking about how people have never heard of NECROPOLIS and how we have to step up our game to get the word out. Message received. We hope today’s update to the NECROPOLIS Steam page is a step in the right direction.

Now here’s the big change. All three versions of the game will release at the same time this summer. We’ll announce the new date as soon as everything’s solidified. And before it comes up, this wasn’t BANDAI NAMCO’s idea - it was ours. While I hate to slip our release date, I know from experience that doing a console release right adds a significant amount of dev work. It’s work that had to start right away (because consoles require a lot more lead-time for certification) but we didn’t want the console work to shift our focus away from launching on PC. So we believe this is absolutely the right decision, and that the additional time will make for an even better NECROPOLIS for consoles AND for PC.

Fuck this lol.
Because of consoles you have to wait till summer

I see...They didn't have a problem taking PC gamers money to fund their games (necropolis wasn't kickstarted but still..)..

If no new classes\abilities\weapons'\content in general get released in summer and the delay is only about getting console version ready then it would be like spitting in the face of everyone who supported them..

Jesus Christ. So basically, like the second post there says, most devs that begged PC money for PC games took them, then used the earnings to make console games or versions. The only one that did right by PC's being Obsidian. The rest of these motherfucking backstabing piece of shit traitorous sellouts used the earnings from the PC versions to switch to consoles. And this shit? Standing on the finished PC game so they can do consoles? This is god damn unspeakable.

Why are all these fuckers seduced by consoles as soon as they see some money from the PC side? You'd think they would want to nurture further the PC gamers that gave them their money, not chase audiences that don't exist in the hope that maybe, maybe.

inXile did right by PC community and I think there are few more examples.
Apparently this postpone won't give them time to add new content from what I've got on Steam from some dev posts. The game will still launch in the summer with 1 class.

They asked money for a PC game and they delivered that. After that, they took the earnings and made a console game. Obsidian took the same earnings and made TWO fucking expansions for the base game, with a gazilion patches and enhancements along the way. Like in the old days, before dlc, when add-ons/expansions existed.

Tides of Numenera should have been out in 2015, but due to the fact that half the studio was dicking around with the console game, the game barelly made it in alpha right this year. It will probably be out in 2017 by how it looks. They may have delivered the thing they promised with the kickstarter, but everything since was console oriented, the same with Larian.

They even removed a scene from the original PC version because they couldn't make it work on a pad

https://forums.inxile-entertainment.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=13977&p=158808#p158808

In case of Larian, the simplistic gameplay and interface makes me believe they had controller output in their mind from the start, but they waited until they put out the pc version. Why do you think Original Sin 2 looks completely identical in every way to the first game, with zero changes? Because they implemented controller support in the game and now have to design everything so it's manageable on a gamepad. Everything from now on is made so it can fit and make sense on controllers.

They delivered what they promised at first, true, but nothing else. It was all console from there. While Obsidian actually worked like a PC dev used to 15 years ago. They used the success from the base game to deliver more PC content, not force it on god damn consoles

Actually they took the money and made a free Enhanced Edition of that game and invested more in two other games which were funded through Kickstarter.
Also, the expansion for Pillars of Eternity was basically paid through crowdfunding, it was a reward for paying more money (20$ more or something).

I'm fine with Torment being postponed, it's the spiritual successor of what it's considered to be the best RPG of all times (surely is the best RPG I've played). So why rush it? I think they've learned enough from Wasteland 2 release to know that they aren't capable of pulling out these games in time without making them a buggy mess.

They took the money and made a console version which they also released on PC, because why not. The changes were minimal and coould have been done in a patch. Which was actually the way it was announced in the form of a mega patch before they dumped it and announced consoles. They could have done like Obsidian and make proper expansions, with dozens of extra content, if consoles werent involved. They fucked us in the ass, i don't think theres any reason to kid ourselves that they did us a favour or done something good. Consoles were all that was in their mind with the Directors Cut.

I don't remember the expansions from Eternity being stretch goals. I think they just did them by themselves. Proper guys. Not to mention that they activelly dismised consoles in any shape or form.

Seriously, stop pandering to Inxile. It doesn't botter you that Numenera is postponed, you say. It's not postponed. It was delayed because HALF the studio was fucking with the console version. I already said that. Delay for polish - thats PR bullshit for the masses that read IGN, it's not for us here. Theres nothing postponed, theres no taking their time so its "polished". They couldn't do it because they weren't working on it. Because they were busy doing a console game that absolutely no one fucking bought . What a god damn waste of time and money for Inxile and Larian. Forcing such types of games on consoles where they don't work well, they don't feel natural and theres zero audience. Hopefully the below zero sales removed such thoughts from their minds for the future

DC brought some cool new features that can't be delivered through a patch:
- The swap to Unity 5 and new renders
- Precision strike
- Perks and quirks
- New voice over

When was the last time an AAA developer gave you that much for free? Their investment in Wasteland 2 can be compared to what Obsidian invested in Pillars and brought for free to the community that owned the original game, the only difference is that Wasteland 2 is just a better game. Smile

It wasn't a stretch goal, it was a reward for paying more. It was even available as an add-on when they launched the crowdfunding options on their website.

I haven't said why I believe they postponed it and I don't care that much anyway. Doing so will send me to conspiracy territory and I'm fine on solid ground. Wasteland 2 was a rushed but good RPG, which received a lot of attention from inXile. I don't feel betrayed by the developer in any way.
In the current case, with Harebrained I feel offended. I was part of two of their Kickstarter campaigns (if not three) and now as a reward I have to wait until Summer for a game that should have released in less than a month.

Can you pre-purchase this shit on consoles? Something tells me "no".

But you CAN pre-purchase on PC, right? Right... So 0 fucks were given from the dev. for those that supported them.

I'm watching the video above atm and every time this dude swings his sword he makes this ridiculous sound...I hope we won't be left with just this "cha" "sha" or whatever it is lol

PS the game looks (interface and all) and plays like it was initially designed keeping consoles in mind...

And tbh although it has randomly(?) generated levels they will prolly all look the same judging by the game's art style and design..I really liked exploring the world in the dark souls series.. I'm not so sure about this one..

For being release in summer, this still looks very rough to me: animations, graphics and combat wise.

Even if you decide to go for an artstyle like this, you can still make it look interesting and appealing. At least the environments sadly just look lazily done to me.

Yup, the problem with such Zelda-Souls-like approach is that exploration and good level design are crucial part of the fun, if you gimp/remove them and focus only on the rinse and repeat pork chopping (which is looking quite limited indeed) you enter a risky territory.

It's probably more fun in co-op, but as a fan of the bachelor frog experience(tm) that's not an option xD

Necropolis: The roguelike, co-op Dark Souls clone you never knew you needed
Exclusive world premiere of co-op mode proves out Harebrained's stunning dungeon crawler.
Quote:

Harebrained isn't reinventing the Dark Souls wheel with Necropolis by any stretch. Instead, what it has done, at least based on my preview time, is isolate and pull out a new kind of "fun factor" in its brutally hard play by making it easy to put friends into the mix and scale the challenge accordingly when they show up. I appreciate the single-player mode's challenge and play-it-again roguelike appeal, especially now that I've seen more of the impressive, later level designs that its modular system can invent on the fly, but I already see myself planning multiplayer parties based on this bad boy, and I cannot wait for the game to launch on Steam, PS4, and Xbox One "this summer." E3 has yet to begin, but I already have a best-of-show contender on my mind.

Co-op...So..instead of various characters (mage\rogue\knight etc) we'll see lots of dudes with just a shield and a sword..yay. Laughing

I think I'll just wait for DLCs that are supposed to introduce new classes.
